@itsv I agree, sign up for housing as soon as possible! My daughter is a first year and waited really late to submit her housing preferences. She was admitted EA and we paid the deposit as soon as we could, but you have to submit the dorm preferences to get in the que for that dorm. She did get in a Freshman Experience dorm, but it was her absolute last choice. Some freshmen ended up in non Freshman Experience dorms this past fall due to a lack of space in those dorms.There doesn’t seem to be a lot of difference in the actual rooms, but a great difference in location. She’s on West Campus, which is perfectly nice and preferred by some students. But, she’s in a sorority and it’s quite a distance getting back to her dorm after dinner (sororities eat lunch and dinner at their house which are all on East Campus). Her classroom buildings would be closer if she lived on East Campus, but it’s not a big difference and that doesn’t hold true for all students. Her dorm does not have a laundry room, but it does have a work out room.
Congratulations to all those accepted and best of luck to all those deferred! My daughter had several friends that were deferred and then admitted RD last year. For all those that were denied, congratulations on all you have accomplished! You have all worked hard and will end up in the school that’s perfect for you!
There is one piece of advice I would give to those students that were deferred. Vividly illustrate the passion you have for the field you plan to pursue! I’ve read on several threads that some applicants feel they should have listed a less competitive major to give them an edge in admissions. Unless you can back up those choices with sustained and consistent ECs and a very convincing essay, you wouldn’t help your case. Representatives from each college review the applications that list an intended major in their field. They will have little trouble discerning that you actually have little interest in their programs. I believe it could greatly diminish your chance of admission. All those deferred will have amazing stats. Set yourself apart by showing how you intend to make a difference! Good luck!!!
I agree on the sign up for housing asap. My son is a Junior and lives on West campus. He really likes it.I think it is important is to look at the descriptions of the dorms for things like when they were last renovated, is there a laundry room in the building(some you have to go the the next building over), is there a workout room, layout of the building, is there an elevator?(I’m glad there was one for move in/out…)
@MichiganGeorgia Hey my DH is from Michigan and lives in Georgia now. My just received his acceptance and we’ve paid our down payment and housing fee. Which dorm would your son recommend?? His experience is valuable to us newbies!
Question about housing!! Is it necessary to confirm your intent to enroll prior to paying a deposit for housing? Some schools allow you to put a housing deposit prior to committing to enrollment. We are still waiting for some decisions, but don’t want to lose out on freshman experience dorms!
@d101parent You have to enroll prior to paying your housing deposit. @MexitalianMom I hope your son will apply to Grand Challenges, it is an awesome program. The students all live together in Howell which is a good location for freshman. As @MichiganGeorgia mentioned, the dorm recommendations depend on the side of campus your son wants to live on. On the West, the students really like Fitten. On the East I think Glenn or Towers would be a good choice. They just were renovated and they build this new building between them called the “Connnector”. There is a very nice workout room there as well as other facilities and it is all brand new.
@MexitalianMom - DS was in Fitten as a freshman. A number of the kids from our high school choose it for freshman year. It has an elevator, and a kitchen on each floor. Also it’s co-ed by floor. Nice field behind the dorm. trolley stop right outside the dorm. Near CRC. Has a laundry room. Also as a parent what I really liked about it was that there is parking right in front the dorm. So I could drive in park the car and text him to just come down to drop stuff off or pick him up. While I’m not sure if it will be the case in the future, he decided to go to school in the summer after freshman year. Fitten was used as one of the summer dorms so he didn’t have to move until fall. Worked out great because moving is a pain. If my youngest(9th grade) goes to Tech he will be putting Fitten down as his first choice.
@itsv Thank for the info! My son is fairly shy & quiet, I’m not sure he’s up to being in GC. He’s not very interested in applying. I have heard Towers was a good male-only dorm. I don’t think it has an elevator, but it has a kitchen on each floor and laundry facilities. I didn’t realize it was recently remodeled, thats good news. Do they let incoming freshmen tour dorms? Thanks again for this information!
And that’s why the whole “Chance me” thread from College Confidential is basically pointless. College Confidential is an online forum where students discuss the admission process, pose questions to other commenters, and share their experiences with particular schools. There are some helpful threads on subjects and occasional experts who provide facilitation of topical discussion. But largely, at least at this time of year, there are long exchanges between students and parents that have come to be known as “chance me.” In these threads parents, I mean students… well, let’s call a spade a spade, parents pretending to be students, post stats such as GPA, test scores, extracurricular involvement, essay topics, and other demographic descriptors. Then other forum members provide their thoughts, speculation, and odds of that person being admitted to a particular school. In reading those strings, I am reminded of the quote “most advice is sound- but it’s rarely sound advice.”
How can I view the scores received by the college on Buzz_Port?
I am a deferred applicant and I want to check whether they have received my December 2015’ SAT Scores.
@PhilaSkiMom Thanks for the info.
I don’t know unless people are willing to say where they are from and that they are accepted. I do understand the anguish when deciding to send far from own home state.
So me and My mom have been reading the page since the beginning. and I finally made my account!
I have been accepted

@Mangokey Huge congrats to you on all you have accomplished - I imagine it has been a challenge to be such a Cs leader as a young lady - huge kudos to you!! And congrats on your acceptance to GA Tech!!!
