@corpcomp - My son was blessed to get in EA this year. I noticed not only did the applicant numbers go up, but they accepted 849 less students this year. EA 2015 was 5273 and EA 2016 was 4424 even though 3000 total 14,861 (or 30%) more applied. Does anyone know if that means they are planning to make this years freshman class smaller, or are they going to admit more RD? I am sure it is being done on purpose. Just curious if anyone knows why.
Momof3kidsau - They mentioned that slightly less for RD than EA. About 4000 for RD. The class size will likely be the same. They are taking about 60% GA students, 30% rest of USA and 10% international. Will be interesting to see if the rest of the USA number creeps up like other public schools (Alabama now takes more out of state than in state) because GA is reducing support to GT and UGA and they need the higher tuition from the Non GA students. But almost 99% of the GA students at GT still get almost free tuition through the Hope Scholarship which covers any student with a B average in HS. The scholarship is funded by the lottery. The other 1% are the athletes who get a full ride (on at least a 2.5 GPA). Shame the rest of the States don’t do that type of scholarship. Would solve a lot of tuition problems.
@corpcomp - Thanks for the info. We have PACT plan from Alabama which was going bankrupt. So, they settled a lawsuit with the owners and locked in tuition rates from 2013, which gives us about $8000 a year, which certainly won’t cover OOS Gtech tuition but is better than nothing. Most state schools are raising tuition and looking for OOS dollars to make up for shrinking state budgets.
Is there an official Georgia Tech Facebook group?
thanks!! @Hermit9
anyone got in who is an international female and applied for industrial engineering?
Did anyone else go the Explore Science and Math Open House yesterday?
Yes - happy to share any info you are looking for. I thought it was a very well designed day to showcase the research of the school and give prospective students a taste of what they’d experience if they choose to attend.
@Indybid Are you faculty/a current student?
It was exceptional, I’ve been telling everyone about it.
Good news!
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) which includes Georgia Tech just announced there will be no tuition increase for the 2016-2017 academic year. Tuition will remain the same as the current 2015-2016 year. This is approximately $4900 per semester for in state students and $15,000 per semester for out of state students. However this does not include the cost of room and board or student fees (About $1200 per semester ) which were not referenced in the announcement. Student fees are things like Athletic fees, Technology fees, Recreation Fees, Health Fees, Transportation fees which all colleges charge.
All together, out of state students will be paying about $44,600 per year starting next Fall using the 10 meal a week plan. The unlimited mean plan will be slightly higher.
While I don’t have any inside information, from having been in academia a long time, my guess would not be a change in class size, but more likely that they are anticipating a higher yield from applicants (i.e. more of those accepted will decide to go to GT).
How is Georgia Tech for pre-med? I am worried about my gpa because I have heard how difficult tech is. Is tech good for pre-med students?
I don’t believe they are making the Freshman class smaller. The yields at GT were higher last year then expected, consequently the number of admits is lower this year.
My son was deferred to RD from EA. When you received your EA acceptance did you receive your financial package including GT scholarships and grants that same day? Just wondering what to expect on March 12 when RD announced.
My DD was accepted EA. To date, she has only received an email that, unfortunately, she was not chosen for one of the Presidential Scholarships. We are still waiting for the full financial package. I understand that will be sent sometime this month.
EA did not get a financial aid estimate or offer. Merit scholarships have gone out already though for the most part though some departmental scholarships still seem to be coming out on people’s portals.
did anyone else get asked to send in tax transcripts from the IRS? Is that considered a good sign for admission?
Anyone else nervously awaiting decisions in about an hour? [-O<
