My son got Wait listed . I am seeing few students are deferred, Which is better and has more chances Deferred or Wait list. The letter said that they will get back only after 1st of May deadline, that means we may lose the deposit for other college right ? Do they respond to deferred first or wait list ?

@phemrajani: “Deferred” means that an EA applicant got moved to the RD applicant pool for consideration. Once you are in the RD pool, your options are acceptance, rejection, or wait list. So deferral status has no relevance at this point.

Decisions to offer wait-listed students a place in the entering freshman class are made after May 1, once Georgia Tech has an idea of who has accepted or declined from the EA and RD applicant pools, and thus how many vacant spots they have in the entering freshman class. So, yes, you may lose a deposit that you have put down for another college. That’s just “the cost of doing business,” as they say.

@phemrajani: Many schools will give you partial reimbursement of your deposit if you decide not to attend the school after deposit is made. Check with each school for specific details/requirements.

My D got wait listed. Does she needs to let the admissions know that she is interested or she just needs to wait till after May1’st? Also what if you are wait listed for more then 1 colleges? Do you remain on the wail list of all colleges or you have to to select one wait list?

You should carefully follow the instructions for the waitlist at each college. They normally require that you accept a place on the list by indicating so on their portal. They may also want (or allow) some additional information to be added to your application. If you don’t follow the instructions they will assume you aren’t interested. If you know you wouldn’t accept a late offer from them then you should decline the waitlist status. It helps them when/if they start making calls to know which kids might actually be interested. You can accept waitlist status at multiple colleges but you should definitely move forward on one where you have been accepted as many colleges pull very few students from their waitlists so you can’t count on getting off of the waitlist and certainly won’t know before May 1.

@atxfather, Thanks.

Got a guaranteed transfer offer for 2019.

1.I was wandering is this negotiable, can i call them later once people start accepting/rejecting their offers?

  1. Can I ask to enter the 2019 Freshman class instead of starting in second year (get the full experience)? I am from the U.K. and A levels already cover most of 1st year and some of 2nd year STEM courses so I feel my level is decent.
  2. I thought these types of offers were only for students with family connections to the university?

Thanks

Hey does anyone know the RD acceptance rate for Ga Tech this year? I got waitlisted.

@Sminitrious This year number of applications reached to 35600, a 13% increase from last year. Assuming number of admissions are same as last year, that would certainly put a dent in acceptance rate, Last year acceptance rate was 45% instate, 18% OOS, 23% Overall.

@PPofEngrDr Hey thanks. I’m assuming nothing official about this class though?

accepted

Forget to mentioned, international student.

Anybody receive the Provost scholarship yet for RD?

My son was accepted RD (after EA deferred) on March 10. When should we expect a financial aid award letter?

I just got an email for the Provost Scholarship, applied RD.

I just looked back at my essays and realized I forgot a period at the end of the second one. Haha! Good thing I didn’t see that after I submitted it, would have had a heart attack.

For those wondering about the Provost Scholarship, computer science is my major. The scholarship size is $80,000 over the four years.
