Georgia Tech Class of 2023 EA Thread

@TXRunningMom - probably not. Fin Aid is typically handled by a separate department than adcoms. This must be specially true at the need blind schools. At need aware schools, filling out financial aid forms may adversely effect if you need lot of aid.

Is it harder to get in as a BME major intent? Or if anyone knows how competitive BME typically is that would be helpful purely because I just want to know how stressed out I should get…

Georgia Tech is my top choice but I have no clue what my chances are
1480 SAT
OOS (NC)
4.426 W / 3.9 UW
26 / 510
female - BME intent
a handful of AP’s including calculus AB & BC, Chemistry, and Biology

My extracurriculars roughly include an immunotherapy research project, varsity lacrosse, varsity golf, working as a math instructor at Mathnasium as well as school peer tutoring, working in the hospital’s radiology department during the summer, worrying about college and scholarship essays, and lots of community service as well.

However, after re-reading my application a month and a half after submitting I believe I did a poor job of talking about these activities and my supplemental essays were generally weak. (commonapp one kinda rocks though)

Any hope?

weird flex but ok

Is it hurting your chance if you declare your intended major? OOS as well. @AggieHope123 My son sent his subject Math2 and Chem both 800.

I applied EA in-state for Economics:

-SAT: 800 math, 770 r&w
-SAT II: 730 math2, 800 us history
-GPA: 4.58 weighted, 4.00 unweighted (top 5%, I’ll graduate with 13 APs)

EC highlights include natl merit semifinalist, TEDx Talk, 2 club presidencies, 3 other board positions, and four years of soccer.

Expecting acceptance… right?

Can someone chance me??
Thanks in advance!

What are my chances?

OOS EA Mechanical Engineering Applicant:

Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male

ACT Superscore: 34
I’ve taken 5 AP classes so far and I am currently taking 3 as a senior with one dual enrollment. Here are the scores.

AP Lang: 5
BC Calc: 4
AB subscore: 5
APUSH: 4
AP Physics 1: 5
AP World: 4

This year I am taking:

AP Physics C
AP Government
AP Spanish
Multivariable Calculus(dual enrollment)

Extracurriculars:

I have heard constantly that STEM extracurriculars are crucial to GA Tech but since elementary school I have been deeply involved in swimming. If you don’t know, swimming is one of the most time consuming sports; I generally practice 4-5 times a week year round. In the past 3 years, I have been swimming before school at 4:30 in the morning. I literally have ZERO time for participation in STEM extracurriculars even during the summer. For about 8 weeks in the summer I am swimming in my neighborhood club in addition to my private club practices and I would say during that time I spend of upwards of 30 hours a week swimming or participating in a swim related activity. I have served as a junior coach during the summer and also serve as a coach during our winter practices.

Could this be a problem for me? It is the only thing I’m worrying about.

Also, I have been participating in Boy Scouts. I am a current Life Scout and I am working towards Eagle.

My essays, supplementals and recommendations are all very good. I have a very close relationship with the teacher who wrote my recommendation; he knows me through my summer swim team and I have coached his kids. I have reviewed my essay and supplementals multiple times and I believe they are very well written.

I genuinely love STEM topics. I love building things and I believe my transcript reflects that because of my STEM related electives. To be specific, my favorite class is STEM Engineering. Although for many in the class it is a joke because it is an easy A, I take it very seriously. We incorporate the use of the inventor program to create things like balsa bridges, gliders, and most recently automatons.

should it be expected that GT releases their decisions on exactly 1/12? not sure what their reputation is for that but i was just wondering if we may hear back earlier

Yes, username thief @plzacceptmegt

hahaha that’s funny i didn’t see that i just made an account real quick to see if anyone would chance me.

Can somebody comment does GT values if you are employed in a big university as a Research Assistant in engineering? My son was an intern (junior year) for one year and then hired as a research assistant (senior year) in the second year. He is applying for mechanical engineering based on his interest due to internship and job at the university. Does this increases his chances?

Hey, could someone chance me? Am currently freaking out and really hoping I get in. Here are my stats:

SAT: 1530
OOS status
White female
GPA Weighted: 4.58
Rank: 5/378
AP classes: 10 total
Dual Enrollment Classes: 3
SAT Essay- 6,7,8 scoring
Chem SAT:760
Math 2 SAT:780
AP exams: Chem-4, ab calc-5, lang-5, world history-5, us history-5
Extracurriculars: two years basketball (was captain), four years marching band (leadership 3/4 years), three years varsity track, three years science national honor society, two years national honor society (am an officer as well; included some intense planning and organization), coached a basketball team, work at Smithsonian Air and Space museum for a year and a half now, academic letter, national merit commendation, part of freshmen mentorship program for two years now, president of a club that raised money for childhood brain cancer for three years

I’ve always taken pretty challenging classes and am tripling up on sciences this year. My GT essays were decent. Common App is pretty good. Letter of rec is very good.

Am getting super nervous about the low OOS rate!! If anyone would like to be brutally honest with me that’d be great.

It depends on what you want to major in @hpfulaplcant1234

I applied as a BME major

@hpfulaplcant1234
You should get in.

@hpfulaplcant1234

I’m not one to take away hope or confidence, but there are a few things that I see missing from your application that could affect you. Not will, could.

  1. I don’t see that you have taken AP Biology or the Biology Subject Matter Tests. Seeing how it is literally in the name of what you want to major in, they may really want to see that you have some sort of Biology work taken in high school, especially college level work. Obviously, this goes for every major (ME should be taking Physics C Mechanics, EE should be taking Physics C E&M, AE majors should have taken Astronomy, etc etc).

  2. I don’t see any extracurricular activities that display your passion for your major. Basically, if I were to read over nothing but your extracurricular activities, I could not conclude in any way that you want to or why you want to be a biomedical engineer.

Again, I am not an admissions officer, but at a school as competitive as GT, they do want to see a deep interest for your major, and I am really not able to conclude that from the info that you have provided us on college confidential.

well i created my own thread and got no responses so anyone willing to chance me here?

@plzacceptmegt I don’t believe anyone gets a decision before the date announced. All decisions are released at 12 on the dot. The entire portal changes and your checklist disappears like the day before they are released
