How are y’all stats? I’m halfway depressed
My son got on the waitlist and I am wondering how much time a student has to accept if they get an offer. Does anyone know the timing for this? Trying to decide whether we should visit now or do it when and if he gets an offer.
@ravenpenelope Hmm I’m not sure about that. Why would you want to visit the school though?
@kaikys I think GT would be a great school for him and I know that some schools expect a very fast acceptance when offered a spot off the waitlist. He would not accept a school that he has not visited. Just trying to plan ahead!
@ravenpenelope Ah I see. I’m sorry that I couldn’t answer your question but I hope your son eventually gets accepted to GT
We are in same boat. We live in GA. But we haven’t officially visited that. He got Denied from UIC UC , Is there even a chance for CS major at Tech who are wait listed.
I am 100% depressed. I feel like my son is going nowhere.
I’ve been waitlisted toooo at tech and cwru! I’m mad
@tenseMom Best of luck for you and your son! Being in a CS major itself is a huge achievement. Also, being denied from schools does not indicate that he is in any way less qualified.
@Kandycandy :’( I got waitlisted from half of the schools that released their decisions so far. Fingers crossed for all of us!
What else came out? We do not have anything with us yet.
My son just told me that 4 of his classmates who got accepted at tech are still holding that spot as they already EDd on another school. Not CS major though.
I hope waitlisted will get their seats.
Is it true? Trying to be positive.
@tenseMom if they have truly been accepted ED somewhere else, then unless they did not get the financial aid they to attend, they need to decline their GT offers immediately. You should discuss that with you sons school guidance department.
Now just because they give up their seats dosen’t mean they automatically free up a waitlist spot. GT accepted just under 8000 for an expected class of about 3100 to enroll. So a yield in the 40% range. Last year they actually took 632 from the waitlist, but that was the most the ever have in recent history. This year they have accepted 400 more than they did last year so I don’t expect them to take anywhere near as many from the waitlist this year. It all depends on yield and what they need to fill spots in different departments. The year before last they only took 72 off the waitlist.
Did your son apply to a safety school?
Yeah GSU is safety school. He applied today . It is bad atmosphere at home.

If I discuss will that help my son?
Ultimately, the more people that decline GT acceptance the better chance that they will take more off the waitlist. Not sure what these kids are doing with an ED acceptance and still keeping other apps/acceptances active. Per ED rules, that is not allowed unless they are awaiting a financial aid package from the ED school. Are you sure it was ED and not EA from another school? The reality is that they won’t start taking people off waitlist until mid/late April, so as long as they have made a decision by then it shouldn’t have any effect on chances of coming off the waitlist.
Son said ED .
Hm that’s strange. ED apps are binding as mentioned above…
@kailkys One dude from my school got accepted in yale SCEA but still waiting for Harvard, so he did not decline admission offer from gatech. it could be early action or scea
what is everyone’s safety? mine is UGA
