@danielhyunkim - how are you doing? We have not heard from you in a while. Hope all is well.
@MandyL1 did your son accept the offer to go to France?
My D is on the WL. She did not get this offer but is excited to start college in France.
The extra cost is not on her mind though! Is the cost difference just the plane ticket?
No. There is a $5100 program fee. Tuition is more expensive if you are out of state. There is a strongly suggested Eurail pass of around $800 (everyone gets it as they travel every weekend). Plane tickets are around $1200. Travel expenses for weekend travel (the program is set up so they go to class for days and have three days to travel almost every weekend). All food - no meal plan - purchased.
There is information about the program on the Georgia Tech website with some of the expenses.
My son was supposed to go last summer but it was canceled due to Covid. It is a great experience, but even for us in-state with free tuition was going to be a hefty expense.
Thanks. For Study Abroad, students pay in-state tuition rate except Lorraine France, which has a $6050 OOS surcharge. It is still less than the $10556 OOS tuition extra at Atlanta.
Must be at least 18. We are OOS, but my D wonāt turn 18 until November.

Students who are offered the Metz, France option, do they know French or enrolled in AP/IB French? In France, it is extremely difficult to move around without knowing French, or using google translate. Hence curious to know.
The option offered is Metz which is GT Lorraine. So they pay instate tuition plus the program fee. That is 13,000 plus for Fall 2021 according to their website. Essentially, you would start at the Georgia Tech Campus in Metz, France which is GT Lorraine. The dorm is also 2000.00 or so more than the freshmen dorms on campus but that is the same for both in state and OOS.
They list out all the program costs, plus estimate the additional costs (eurail pass, airfare, passport, visa, food, books, etc.)
Here is the information for GT Lorraine. https://lorraine.gatech.edu
They offer french in Metz, but you need to take 2 semesters of it to count towards an elective I think. My son took one semester before he left and was planning on taking the second in Metz but it was cancelled last summer.
Strongly suggest you go to France. Many GT students do it anyway after their first year so may as well do it now. Itās the experience of a lifetime. Mine had it canceled last year due to COVID, and is doing an internship this summer so itās not happening, unfortunately. Many friends enrolled for this summer though. We thought the price was quite fair considering all that was offered, and we are out-of-state.
Hi how are you doing? Thank you for asking and your warm heart.
Trying to be ok honestly haha.
Yeah we had same email of Reaffirm and āGT have offered admission to approximately 130 students from the waitlistā from GT.
I am really curious and wondering how many students (who are on the waitlists) got the same email.
Said, GT will be giving more information in JUNE, and somebody said that could be August evenā¦ Wowā¦ Itās getting tired.
What is the best way to get off? What should we do?
Losing hopeā¦ Sigh.
Thank you! @WorriedButNot again.
Price differential is not much if you are OOS, may even be less? Quite a lot if you are in-state.
I think the probability of getting off the WL is even lower than acceptance. You just have to plan like it will never happen!
The fact that 130 ppl have already gotten off WL is a both good and badā¦so lets see.
I agree @danielhyunkim. Its certainly tiringā¦lets all hope for the best. My son is still waiting for 3 more waitlists & there has been very little movement overall.
Keeping fingers crossed.
Yeapā¦ I think so. I agree with you thatās better to make plan Bā¦
Likewise. Tiring but hoping thatās gonna happen to all waitlists as well.
Even plan B needed as of this moment but my D is praying, waiting and holding hope to be in GT finally.
Just because we donāt know when we could get clear result for all uncertainty at all.
Hope all goes well to everybody here.
Whatever happens, happens for a reason. Wherever they go, they do well. Thatās what I tell my younger son. My older son had the same experience 7 years ago. Was in UCB waitlist, which never materialized, and went to OOS at UIUC - did his undergrad well (mech/aerospace), with heavy undergrad research, and finally got direct PhD admission at UCLA. We all realize that he could not have achieved any of that potential in a cut-throat place like UCB. He was never a great test taker (these were the SAT days). But it all worked out extremely well at the end. So I hope for the WL spot, but will definitely move on after the end of this month.
Lovely sharing.
Yeah, my D is on the mist of chaos for now but she is trying to be OK literally yeah. I told my D like what you have shared with your precious Son as well.
And she is getting better and moving forward whatever happened.
Thought was like this,
She declined UW, UIUC , some of LACs with Scholarship (Full and some) for GT.
So, it would be very very happy more than we can imagine if she can get in GT finally.
But what if she couldnāt?
Is it worth to wait for GT?
Yes, It is haha.
Thatās nice. Our school seniors get out 2 weeks before the rest of the school, but since there are multiple AP administrations this year, my son had 2 during the first administration and then even though heās done with school he has 2 more next week and then graduation. Prom then is in June after graduation (normally itās in April). I finish next week too and then I can shift my attention to his dorm shopping.
I think that with the number of top kids not getting into Ivies like expected, they are ended up at schools like GaT or Michigan or Texas and the kids at those schools will be even stronger than is typical and those schools wind up the recipients of some great freshmen classes imo.
