Congrats @cat105 - What major, in-state, OOS or international?

My daughter also got accepted this afternoon.

Congratulations. What major, in-state, OOS or international? Are you going to accept or stay put?

My son got in as well. In-state, Business major.

Psychology major, in-state. Considering all options right now.

I wonder if more will come off waitlist today?

Unlikely. Their pattern has been to let people off on Thursday. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last release to compensate for those who requested gap semesters by July 1 deadline. Dorm selection for fall is next week.

Any thoughts on international students still deferring

FYI for those waitlisted, Georgia Tech will be having hybrid/online classes this fall. The ones I have heard of so far are typical freshman classes (math, physics, etc). This is a surprise to many as they announced in April all classes would be 100 percent in person.

What does that mean for our waitlisted students. Less chance of movement?

I mean I think there is almost no chance of movement at this point. However, I think it is an important consideration that needs to go into the decision whether to accept a waitlist offer. There are quite a few upset parents as this is not what was promised and many made their college decisions in part in consideration of whether classes would be in person.

Good points. Do you not think movement could happen if international students can’t get here. Do you think the waitlist will close soon?

Where is your child committed? Not looking good right now but always transfer if they want to do so.

Safe to say that waitlist is closed for oos students at this point?

People who have already committed to GT and declined other schools, have no option left to pick anything else - except for community colleges or taking a gap year I think. That count of folks (who want to decline GT because of partial online delivery) will be very small to generate any opening I think.

I was talking about those who are considering waitlist offers right now. This was a major contributing factor in my son’s college decision and others we know - and there were more than a few that chose GT because of their commitment to be 100 percent in person for classes. They are not happy!

I wonder when the waitlist will close?

This round of waitlist admits has been told they are not guaranteed first year housing and there is a waitlist for first year housing. Sounds to me that even if waitlist does not close until August there will be no meaningful movement as facilities are full.

Wow. I can’t believe it’s that tight on housing. Good to know

Perhaps some freshmen that accepted GT due to promise of in person classes will request and receive gap years and new spots will open soon.
