Summer 2022? What did they call his pathway? It should be in his letter. APS is one? Be sure you clarify which one as they have different requirements.
Here are all of the transfer pathway programs. Your childâs letter should indicate which one they qualified for. It is important to know this because you want to be sure they meet the qualifications for the awarded pathway.

It says conditional transfer payhway and mention the same requirements mentioned in the link. Other than that, it didnât specify whether art and sciences, first generation etcâŠ,
nice! same, the only reason Iâd like to go to GT is that it is in the city. otherwise, gt and uga are very very similarly ranked in terms of their business schools.
So you have been so helpful throughout this process and I wanted to ask you regarding the transfer pathway. My son received the following;
we are pleased to offer you the option of the Conditional Transfer Pathway Program for Summer 2022 as a transfer student.
under the conditional transfer pathway requirement it says the following:
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and a combined math/lab science GPA of 3.3 or higher. The cumulative GPA includes coursework taken at all colleges and/or universities attended. The math and lab science GPA includes mathematics courses at the calculus level and higher combined with natural science courses including both lecture and laboratory components.
My son is going to start UGA honors and received 62 credit hours due to his 14 AP Exam scores. So to transfer at Tech in summer of 2022 you need Calc 2(which he due to his AP Calc BC score of 5 got credit for Calc 1 and Calc 2 at UGA) and got credit for chem 1211/1212 with lab and Bio 1107/1108 with lab and physics 1211 along with Eng 1101 and 1102 plus 3 courses of french and 2 history courses. these courses are showing up on his transcript at UGA. My question is, he does not need to take a science to transfer correct bc he has plenty of science credit from AP and we are starting with Calc 3 in the fall at UGA So the above paragraph says GPA of 3.3 for math and lab science but we have credit for the lab science course from AP. So does he need to take even more science?
Also, can we apply to transfer in the winter semester as well since we have all the required classes covered already?
To take advantage of the conditional transfer, you have to enter during the summer of 2022. You need to look at your particular major to be sure all transfer requirements are satisfied. Those requirements can be satisfied by class or AP credit. You also have to take 30 hours either completed or in progress at UGA. Also most schools require you to be out of high school a year before transferring.
You could of course apply to enter in fall 2022 instead, but you would give up the benefit of the conditional transfer which is basically a guaranteed admit as long as you take the required classes, take the required hours and have the required GPA. GPA will need to be much higher for regular transfer acceptance.
I donât believe you have to take an additional science if all your science requirements are satisfied for transfer, although taking all science and placing out of it at UGA might be a good idea.
Also, you will get credit for the transfer equivalency of the class on your UGA transcript regardless of AP score. For example, Georgia Tech requires a five on AP physics C to exempt. Uga requires a four. If you have received AP credit at UGA for the class, it will transfer to Georgia Tech even without a 5 on the exam.
With the large number of hours your son has, plus the required additional 30 hours to transfer, it sounds like he will only need two or at the most three semesters at Georgia Tech.
Here are the requirements for each major to transfer! course requirements by major Some majors require that you take specific subjects before transferring.
Also, use the course equivalency site!
Do the classes you take as part of the 30 hours have to transfer? My son has so many aps and does not need many additional hours to transfer. Itâs hard to find classes that will transfer using the table. He wants to take his major classes at ga tech
Thank you! Thatâs super helpful. So one last question, he is taking 15 credit hours at UGA this semester which includes his HONORS 1000H 1 credit hour and FYOS 1 credit hour both transfer as an elective at GA tech so this will count towards his min 30 credit hours correct?
Yes. They count towards the 30 hours.
When we transfer with a pathway, we just have to make the requirements right (3.3 gpa, 30hours, required credits)? the essay on the transfer application doesnât count, does it?
I would assume it counts. They donât use the guaranteed transfer wording for a reason. I would also assume they have your prior essays so you should probably write a new one.
Not sure about this. Most classes on the transfer equivalancy table seem to transfer at least as an elective that we looked at. They do not give credit for remedial classes so those donât transfer but the rest seem to at least in looking at the tables for UGA to Tech. That may well not be true of other schools though.
I would ask admissions.
For anyone wondering, AP hours do in fact count towards the 30 hours. Found it on the GT website. Now we need to figure out if you have to take the lab the same semester as the lecture to count for transfer as waitlisted for a required lab science.
No I donât think the ap count toward the
30 hours but they count toward course pathway requirements
It says different things in different places. On the transfer application page it says you have to complete 30 semester hours and âthis includes students who have earned college credit through dual enrollment or examination (AP or IB).â
Not sure which is correct at this point.
The conditional transfer pathwayâs site says:
No. Credit by exam awards are not included within the 30 semester credit hour requirement after high school graduation.
It might be the requirements are different based on transfer situations?
Maybe so? The first statement is sort of unclear also. My son is a conditional transfer and likely will not transfer but will have 30 hours just in case!
Yes, just in case!
