Georgia Tech Class of 2025- Waitlist Thread

A lot of places have already closed. Georgia Tech is very close to capacity and just letting in 80 people makes me think that there is not much room. Anyone on the waitlist at Georgia Tech is academically qualified to be there and will be successful wherever they go.

Time to move on, get excited about where they have committed, enjoy the remaining days of their senior year;).

Hi, We are in panic nowā€¦
but we could move on from this challenges.

Yes I do agree with you to make Plan B butā€¦
still I am keeping 1% or 0.1% hope to be in GTā€¦

@VirginiaBelle I thank you for your heart.
Letā€™s make our kids enjoy their lives no matter what happenedā€¦

I wish my parents could be as supportive as you guys. My parents keep making me feel stupid for not getting in in the first place.

Youā€™re definitely not stupid and Iā€™m sorry your parents are making you feel as such. Where you go to college doesnā€™t define who you are or how successful you will be. Being on the waitlist means you were just as qualified as someone else, your number just didnā€™t come up. Do not worry about your parents or pleasing them. Focus on yourself and being the best you can be!

Where have you committed? Go there and and be happy and live you life. My son didnā€™t get into his first choice school but I am proud of him every day of my life for his hard work and resilience. That school was not meant to be for him and heā€™s excited to go to the school he chose! For that, Iā€™m excited for him!!

Oh dear, I believe your parents are the best of best parents in the universe.
Just maybe they are having a little stress like us (or me only) as parents.

Be joyful and grateful whatever you will be having, because you are the most important and priceless beautiful Diamond in this planet like others who are on the waitlists.

I am going out to get more Sunshine and Fresh air and I will send it for you.

Letā€™s cheer up together!

ā€œMy daughter declined 5 Universities (Full Scholarship even) to go to GT.ā€
She canā€™t really go to GT if she is on the waitlist. I hope she committed to a ā€œsecond bestā€ choice.

Georgia Tech is extraordinarily competitive, even in state. At my sonā€™s school there are three or four people who are at the very top of the class with great test scores who are waitlisted this year. All of these kids got into UGA early action which requires very high stats every year, but even more so this year. Out of state Ga Tech is a total crapshoot.

I see you got into UNC. Congratulations! If I was in your spot I would be happily headed to Chapel Hill without turning back (their business school is one of the top in the country). Chapel Hill is a really special place. Iā€™m certain you have wonderful options - donā€™t let your parents get you down. If they havenā€™t been through the college process before, or if it has been a while, they may just have unrealistic expectations.

For those who got in, were you admitted for summer or fall? The kids Iā€™ve known in past years that have gotten off the waitlist have all been admitted for summer so wondering if this is the same.

@cheeseycheese - dont let anyone make you feel stupid. You are one of the very few who is waitlisted in this very competitive college and you should be proud of yourself. Enjoy the last year of school and even if you donā€™t get GT, know that your future is in your hands. You have everything you need to be successful!

I know CMU but anything else?

@danielhyunkim @srparent15 @VirginiaBelle @WorriedButNot

Thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean a lot to me. You guys are so sweet. It is nice to hear how excited you are for your kids.

I guess my parents really do not understand what this whole process is like, and I shouldnā€™t feel down because of what they say.

Yes, I was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill, but ultimately decided against it because of the price, and also as a business major, I felt it would be more beneficial to live in the city. Currently, Iā€™m committed to UGAā€™s honors program. Iā€™m hoping to transfer to GA Tech next year, but it would be much nicer to start college at Tech in the fall.

If you are in UGA Honors you are in excellent shape for business. I would urge you to dig into their business offerings and facilities, their recruitment opportunities (they have a different employer every day and an enormous alumni network), the Corsair Society, go onto LinkedIn and see where Terry business grads work, etc. We know several recent graduates or soon to be graduates and they have excellent jobs all over the country. If you are close by, come take an in person tour of the business school. It is very impressive! You can schedule those on their website.

Good luck to you at Tech on the waitlist, but know that the opportunities in the business school at UGA are vast and far reaching. If you do end up at UGA for business, a Terry degree will open a lot of doors.

Thank you so so much. I didnā€™t know about those business opportunities. Iā€™ll be sure to look into them!

The Corsair Society is affiliated with the honors program. I believe you need to be in the honors program to be accepted into it but may be incorrect. They are very effective in placing people and investment banking roles. They provide lots of specialized resources and instructions with interviewing etc. The University of Georgiaā€™s Corsair Society - Battle Investment Group, LLC

Hey guys. Just wanted to provide some insight. Note this is just my opinion.
On one of the admissions podcast episodes they do, they said that the waitlist is a time to shape the class on how they want it to be. They strongly want their enrolled class to be 60% instate, 30% OOS, and 10% international. Thatā€™s when they use the remaining spots to try to get close to those numbers. GT doesnā€™t use desired majors to fill their class (to my understanding, they only use it to see if you took a course load to prepare you for that area you chose). Thus, it looks like most of the 80 people yesterday have been in-state (so it looks like they had a lower yield for in-state). For those out-of-state and internationally, I donā€™t think you guys should have much hope (trying to be honest) going forward since it looks like they are trying to fill the remaining spots of their class with GA residents. Iā€™d love to hear if anyone has any other opinions or differing insights because I might be wrong! Just my opinion. Good luck to everyone, regardless of where you end up. Make the most out of it and you will succeed!

I think that is mostly correct, although Rick Clark said recently on one of his podcasts that they actually do look at major along with residency, male/female, etc. Iā€™ve also heard that in years past they take off the waitlist by major, so computer science make it off one day and then the next time itā€™s another major. Doesnā€™t sound like there are many spots this year and the majors seem to be a mixture.

Where did you end up committing?
