<p>I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the reputation of Tech's undergraduate college of management? To other companies, is it considered a well ranked business school? Do companies like to hire georgia tech management students? I live up north where a lot of people don't know much about tech or if they do they say "oh the engineering school" but it seems as if no one knows about their business school. Is it a well regarded school? thanks any insight is appreciated!</p>
<p>The business school is well known by employers and ranks fairly high. It’s not on par with Wharton by any means, but it is comparable to Boston College, Penn State, and Maryland in the Northeast. The school is a bit interesting since it’s fairly new. The undergraduate program has been around for a while, but the MBA program just started up in the 2000’s, and since MBA programs drive rankings and prestige, the school has been gaining steam over the last 5-7 years.</p>
<p>You’ll occasionally hear Georgia Tech students mock the school, but that’s not because it’s a poor school - it’s because the engineering school is so highly ranked (top 5 for probably the entire lifetime of the average student). If your big brother is an Olympic gold-medalist swimmer, no matter how fast of a runner you are, he has a right to mock you a little until you win a gold medal, as well.</p>
<p>As far as employment, last Spring 73% of the students graduated with jobs. Last Fall it was 80%. Those are very high employment numbers (keep an average GPA and you’re virtually guaranteed a job). The median starting salary typically floats between $50,000 and $55,000, which is very good for non-top 10 business schools. In addition, there are some programs you can get into (such as Technology & Management) that also virtually guarantee a job, but at probably a higher salary with more advancement potential.</p>
<p>It looks like you were already admitted to Tepper, as well. That’s a very good school that’s more established than GT, so it would be hard to choose GT over Tepper unless you had a specific goal to work in the southeast US or you had a particular interest in a GT program.</p>
<p>CFB53B is absolutely correct. I’m actually a current College of Management student, and we’ve all been really impressed by how fast Georgia Tech’s business school has been rising in the rankings. As mentioned before, our students have a significantly higher starting salary and job placement record than the average business school. As per your question regarding if companies like to hire Georgia Tech Business Students, from personal experience, I’d say nearly all of my business friends have jobs with great companies, such as Bain Consulting, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, Coca-Cola, GE, McKinsey & Company, and many more. </p>
