I’m wondering what my chances are of getting into Georgia Tech’s Distance Math program. I am currently a sophmore and enrolled in Precalculus Honors with an unweighted A+, but I’m teaching myself AP Calculus BC. I expect I can get a 4 or 5 based on practice tests. I just took the SAT and got a 1460 - 780 Math and 680 Reading and Writing. I am transferring schools next year and will be the only student applying for Dual Enrollment. My GPA is a 4.157 Weighted on a 4.3 scale (3.9 Unweighted). I’m taking 2 APs right now (Comp Sci and APUSH) plus teaching myself BC. How selective is this program? Can I get in?
You should check with GT admissions and verify self study will meet the BC Calc requirement. And you should check with the new high school to make sure they know you are applying, as there are technology requirements. Hope you sent the SAT score to GT, and don’t forget to put their code on your AP form.
@peachparent, OP is trying to get into a high school math program at GaTech, I believe not GaTech for a bachelors degree. Its a math program for Georgia students, as I understand it.
Yes, both of my children took GT Distance Math at our Georgia high school, but they had to apply directly to GT for dual enrollment. GT accepts about 400 students statewide, but the high schools have to support the 2-way live video link, exam proctoring, and transmittal of tests (currently via overnight mailer). I was just concerned about OP being the lone applicant at a new school that might not have experience with GT Distance Math. Only 51 high schools currently offer the program.
The administration seems very familiar with it, so my primary concern was admission. Thanks for all the info!
