General Comments:
I think my strengths rested in my course load and grades. Even though I only had a 3.72, I am at a private boarding school with a relatively difficult boarding school, so it would be equivalent to a 4.0+ in public school. I was a bit surprised, considering I am Asian, but perhaps it is because I didn’t apply to the more competitive majors, such as Computer-related majors.

I wish everyone the best of luck in their process. Don’t be bummed; there are plenty of great schools out there. I myself had two bad results prior to GT.

@Grindle - Congrats on Colorado school of mines. It is a really good school. My grandfather went there and the views there is awesome.

not expecting much, not sure where to attend yet. congrats to everyone who got in. Deferred from MIT but glad that GT took me in.

@orjioke33 @pcftcp I have no idea… I really wasn’t expecting to be deferred either. I thought my stats were good enough for GTech, and I really liked the school. So far my admissions results have not been going well…

@orjioke33 @pcftcp @QuantumFlux I hear you all. Same is happening with my son so far.

I think you were borderline on EA and a good probability for RD.

General Comments:
Obvious weak point is low GPA, was hoping ACT would make up for it. Does sending AP scores help? I didn’t know that was a thing. Common App Essay 9/10, Supplements 8/10. Hoping for the best, maybe compared to other Asian engineering majors I’m a weak applicant. What are my chances for RD?
And Good luck to everyone else!

Hello. When I applied to Georgia tech I applied as a Computer Science major. I just found out yesterday that I was accepted (yayy) but it doesn’t say computer science anywhere on my buzzport so I was just wondering where you can find what major you’ve been accepted to?

Accepted (CS), stats are copy paste

SAT I (breakdown): 2260, 2300 single sitting, 2340 superscored
ACT (breakdown): 36 (36E, 35M, 35R, 36S), writing 11/12 all sections (so 31 on new scale)
SAT II: 800 on Math II, 760 World History and Physics
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.77, weighted 4.52
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): n/a, assuming top 2%
AP (place score in parenthesis): 5s on Calc BC, Gov, Human Geo, World History, Macro, Micro, Stat, Physics C Mechanics, Lang, Span Lang, US History, 4 on Chem, 3 on Physics C E&M
Senior Year Course Load: Discrete math (class after lin alg/diffyq), AP Biology, AP Spanish Lit, AP Lit, required classes for graduation

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):

(Internet gaming businesses): pulling in roughly 100k annual revenue, 40k profit
Model UN (Officer position): presided over several conferences, won the standard best/outstanding/honorable mention delegate awards
FBLA: Won #1 in state for computer-related competition, several #1 in district for math/calculations
Volunteer/Community service: School tutoring for roughly 25h from sophomore year, not much else
Summer Activities: Internship at Gatech - no paper, just software development. Lots of business activities.

Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Large public

@FlugleWaffle What region for Jefferson Scholar, I too am a Nominee in the state of VA

@Grubbs My school nominated me from Alexandria but I live in Mclean, Im not sure what the region bounds or names are but I’m probably in the one that touches DC. You?

@FlugleWaffle Central Region, High School is in Williamsburg

Normally, I wouldn’t do this, but I just wanted to help some ppl out from my area to see what it takes

General Comments:

Pretty stoked I didn’t get deferred like all the other 35s and 2300s. GT is one of my top choices, especially for ECE and now only MIT and CMU can beat it. To those that got deferred, I got deferred from Michigan EA so ik what it feels like. Just let it pass and keep your head up for regular! For those rejected, don’t worry too much about it. I got deferred from my ED school, but I’m much happier with GT than that school, so there probably is something better for you down the road!

@deferralmode, what it takes is what you laid out? Maybe we’ll be classmates. I can then teach you how to trade in your Ferrari for good judgment.

@animelover98 I’m in the same predicament. I got in OOS for CS (given that I applied for it as my primary major) but I see no indication that I was accepted on that basis in Buzzport of the letter of acceptance itself. Can anyone answer this question?

Reflection
Strengths: GPA, URM, In state, teacher recs
Weaknesses: SAT IIs, AP scores
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Columbia, Stanford, UC Berkeley
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Make sure your taking/have taken calculus in/by senior year. Don’t spread yourself too thin and apply to too many school. Apply to schools that you would actually want to go to!

@infiniteCircle & @animelover98 Go to Buzzport>Home>Registration OSCAR>Admissions>Application Status and click on the Application (Fall 2016) There your program of study will show under application information

I knew it was going to be a long-shot, and seeing who was accepted confirmed my thoughts. At least I wasn’t rejected, so I have some hope for Regular admission. If I’m not accepted, then I’ll go to Clemson (I did get a scholarship there).
