Georgia Tech (Engineering Alliance Program)

Is this worth it. I am from out of state and the guy on the phone told me if I maintain a 2.7 gpa at Armstrong Atlantic State then I can successfully transfer to the Georgia Tech Atlanta Campus. I am deciding between this and Clemson. Will the transfer be worth it or will people look down on you and patronize you for doing this program like will they look down on you that you transferred? Not that I can because I ignore most people anyway but just wondering. Also the mid 50% act score for armstrong was very low and it seems like a university that is too easy. Clemson is of course way better but what do you think?

I would not recommend the GT-AASU program out of state. You can attend a school in-state for considerably less and as long as you follow the minimum requirements for transfer to GT and maintain a good GPA, you will have no problem transferring in.

Make sure that in your first year you take the required transfer courses for your major. Also verify that all courses you take are transferable per the online transfer equivalency website. Then follow along with GT’s major chart for your intended major and make sure that you’re following the same schedule as someone at Tech.

Try to transfer to Tech after your first year. It’s very important for your career that you have internship experience. Companies simply won’t interview you without at least one good internship semester, and people now look for two semesters. If you transfer in as a sophomore, you have 2 potential semesters for internships (summer before junior year and summer before senior year). If you transfer after 2 years, you’ll only have one opportunity.

With regards to people’s opinion - the important thing to remember is that a GT degree is a GT degree. No employer will ever care, know, or ask if you transferred into Tech - they just care that you have a degree from there. While at Tech, I don’t get the impression that people care, either.

Thanks a lot BanjoHitter. I really appreciate your help and time. Couple of questions though. Should I reply “no” to the GT-AASU offer now and transfer later from Clemson? Also u said while at tech, does this mean u went to Tech. Thats awesome. Right now im actually trying to appeal for regular decision.

I can’t tell you what to do. But if it was me, I would reply with no to GT-AASU then attend an in-state school with the intent to transfer after the first year.

Oh i see. I didn’t mean that u should tell me what to do. I just meant if i was to follow ur advise should I reply know. Well you answered that already so thanks. I really appreciate your help.
