I was accepted into both UIUC(James Scholar) and Georgia Tech for CS. Which one should I go to? I am not getting aid from any of these schools and I am OOS.

i had the same question a month ago, along with some other unis…I picked Gatech mainly for its reputation and secondly because i love big cities like Atlanta. My second choice was UIUC and i rejected it ,because i could n’t attend both of them :)

I’m in the exact same predicament - deciding between UIUC James scholar or gatech. I’m leaning towards UIUC because their CS program is a bit stronger and have more recruiters. Microsoft hires tons of people from UIUC and the top students (probably us, since we are James scholars) are always offered positions in the summer and after graduation. Gatech may be known for its engineering, but UIUC is better known if you’re talking about CS only.

UIUC also has a better atmosphere. It mat not be in a nice, big city like Atlanta, but UIUC has a better M:F ratio and a much better social scene.

Uiuc is more expensive though, since I got $4000 from Gatech. It’ll cost me $12000 more to attend UIUC.

I’m visiting both schools next week, and I’m hoping that will help me finalize my decision.

Finances (including living and travel expenses) would probably be a major deciding factor for me, as the schools are both in the same league academically.

If the finances are close, go with whatever feels right after your visits. You’re going to have similar opportunities wherever you decide to go.

I visited UIUC and I liked a lot, except that it is in the middle of nowhere. Btw how prestigious is the CS program at UIUC? Is it tough to get in and is it tough to switch into a different major?
