I have been accepted at both Georgia Tech and University of Pitt for biomedical engineering and I'm having a hard time deciding which to go to. Georgia Tech has a really strong and rigorous program and is ranked second in the country for biomedical engineering, however I'm nervous that it is going to be too hard. But i loved the campus and the entire feel of the college when I visited it over the summer. Pitt, on the other hand, is closer to home and still has a pretty good bioengineering program. Does it matter what college you go to, as long as you do well grades-wise? Would i get a better job right out of graduation coming from Georgia Tech rather than Pitt?

It is unusual to get a BME job with only a bachelor’s degree. In most other fields I’d say it doesn’t matter much where you go to college, but in BME, GT is probably one of the only schools where you can hope to get a job coming out of the BME program. They also have a startup incubator…

However, if you plan on going on to grad school (which is how most people become qualified to work in BME), the difference isn’t as great, although you have a much better chance of getting into MIT/JHU/whatever if you’re applying with a good GPA from Tech.

ok thank you! that makes sense, I would most likely go to grad school but if I can get a job right out of college from working with a co-op or internship then probably Georgia Tech would have the best connections?

The bioengineering program would be rigorous at Pitt as well. If you love GT, then I would go there assuming finances are equal

If you want to do research, you are eventually going to have to go into a PhD program or you will plateau very quickly doing science in industry or academia.

Anyway, GT is a great school in engineering. But Pitt is also a top bioengineering program (currently ranked #12 as a department and #21 as an undergrad program by US News). There is no wrong choice there.
