Georgia Tech vs. UC Berkeley

I am struggling to decide between the two. I am an international student, so I am paying out-of-state for either. Intended engineering major - undecided.

I visited Berkeley, it didn't really felt like my place. It's mainly because there were so many people and I felt like I won't receive any personal care. The building and classrooms I sat in were pretty ugly, too. Haha

I havn't visited Georgia Tech yet. But I have heard a lot of good things about it from my couselor. The co-op program sounds pretty cool, vs Berkeley I might not find anything to do for myself, like internships.

My big concern is Berkeley is a higher-ranked, more prestigious, and more selective school. If I just go with Georgia Tech, I feel like I am throwing away a good opportunity. And I want to go to a good grad school, like MIT or Stanford, and I am wondering which one will set me up better for it.

Please comment if you have anything relavent to say about either school. I gotta decide real soon.

Depends, what do you plan on majoring in?

…If you are an intended engineering, then I am really perplexed with you even having the slightest thought of not considering Cal.

Seriously, how much personal care do you really need? You want a professor 24 hrs on call to answer your every question? Might as well ask them for laundry advice then…

And education for you = nice and pretty desks? The quality of staff, GSI, your peers and the opportunities available matter much less than new and pretty hardware? Dude, really, are you serious?!

Here’s a quote for you to think about: “It is better to stand 50 feet from brilliance than 5 feet from mediocrity”

Then again, it’s your choice - you are an adult now, and you need to make your own decisions and endure the consequences that comes with them. Everyone have different goals in their life, and YOU decide what you really want. Remember, it is YOU who is going to endure the next few years, not us.

You seem to get as much personal care as you want/need. They’re not going to help you if you make the initiative to get help, though.

Already I’ve spoken to at least half a dozen people in the EECS department with a huge assortment of questions and they’ve been nothing but extremely helpful.

You should probably visit Georgia Tech and talk to more Cal advisors, professors, and students.

you’re chinese. definitely berkeley.
