I know decisions for UCLA haven't come out yet. However, I have been accepted into Georgia Tech already. I just want to start this final decision process early. Please, do not choose not to reply because UCLA decisions have not come out. A girl can alway dream, right?

Thanks. Oh, and I will be majoring in engineering.

I too am interested in the above topic and especially for
1)Aerospace Eng
2) Bioengineering
3) Comp Science

Definitely GTech over UCLA any day. However, I’m talking about my intended major(Industrial Engg), so a lot depends on your intended major.

UCLA without a doubt. The quality of life is much better at UCLA. Happier students, Southern California sunshine, beautiful campus in Westwood/LA, great athletics, more well rounded, better social scene, and so on…

Academics are comparable at both if you are interested in engineering. Overall, UCLA is much stronger academically.

Georgia Tech may be ranked higher in many engineering areas, but I don’t think that will make much, if any, difference to your employers. Both have good engineering programs and the difference is negligible, especially at the undergrad level. Fit and overall happiness as a student are the most important aspect of this decision imo.

If I had to choose, I’d probably choose UCLA. Maybe I’m California biased since I’ve been living here for so long, but it’s really just a nice place. The weather is nice, the city is close by, lots of events going on, the weather is nice…
UCLA is a higher ranked school and really well known too. But GT is ranked higher for engineering. I think it comes down a lot to where you feel more comfortable living~

Okay Im not American high school girl but… ppl around me are keeping on saying the intended field is much more important a factor to consider than the living environment. Is that so? After all Gatech is just ranked higher in some fields like Engineering and Comp.
Okay another thing is that… boys are much more in Gatech… I love it XD XD

P.S. oh girl I’m the same, accepted by Gatech, waiting for UCLA, worrying abt which to choose XD

Is OP instate for either one?

No, but I am an international student. Also, in the upcoming year, the NYT says that “The University of California system is expected to face at least a 5 percent cut in the $3.5 billion it receives annually in federal research money. Cuts in federal student aid programs will affect the next academic year.” I know 5 percent may not be a lot but still, in the recent years, UCs have been known to be going through some unfortunate financial worries and I’d hate for these financial worries to result in weaker programs. So, I really want to know which option is the best option!

Globally, GT is much more highly reputed, esp in engineering and computing, particularly in Asia, Middle East and Latin America.

@ringo30309 : Can I ask the basis of your assertion?

GT is superior in Engineering compared to most schools. Top in AE, Bioengineering, and Industrial (#1 I believe)

I know kids who chose Tech over MIT. UC San Diego has better engineering.

@ringo to be fair, that statement isn’t really true. I’m an American living in Singapore right now, and while my American friends agree that tech is much stronger in engr than ucla, I’ve realized that Singaporeans tend to think that both have the same level prestige wise when it comes to engr, but if you’re talking the humanities, both ucla and Berkeley are seen as the figurative holy grail here.

And of course, the budget cuts thing. It doesn’t look good, especially for out of state kids.

Georgia Tech is very high in the US News engineering rankings, but that is mainly because the department is huge and has very high research expenditures. In terms of academic reputation, UCLA is much higher without a doubt, especially internationally and on the west coast.
