Georgia Tech vs UIUC Business School, please help decide!

I recently got off wait list and I must decide in a week
Does anyone know which school is better as a business major student? I’m not sure which major I want to pursue in but mostly finance.
I’ve heard that Georgia tech is known to be an extremely rigorous school with less social life other than greek life (I am a girl btw). Is that true for business majors? And how hard is it to get good grades for business Administration major??
please help and thanks!!

What are costs?

they’re around the same for me, only gt is 4k more

UIUC is renown for accounting.
Both GTech and UIUC engineering are tough.
I’d expect the b-schools to be similar, though UIUC may have an edge in finance.

There’s really no difference between the two for business. GT’s difficulty is greatly exaggerated. If you do your work as it’s assigned and manage your time well then you’ll be fine, especially as a business major. The social life is what you make of it. If you want to be social, there are more than enough opportunities to do so on campus (and they aren’t all limited to greek life). Not to mention you have a ton of bars, clubs, etc. in Atlanta that you can hit up if you find campus life lacking.

What are your parents saying about the costs for each school? Are they fine with paying all costs?

Have you visited both schools?

I am unfamiliar with GT’s business school. However, I do have 2 children who are currently in the College of Business at UIUC. I can’t help with comparisons, but I will share that both my son and daughter are enjoying their experience at U of I. I’ll highlight some of the important things they like.

The size and make up of the College of Business: their Chicago suburban high school had ~4,000 students…roughly the size of the CoB. They have found it to be large enough to provide a lot of opportunities, but not too large where you get lost in the pack.

The RSOs are plentiful on a large campus. https://illinois.collegiatelink.net/organizations You can get involved and find a group of people with similar interests. The business frats provide opportunities for personal growth, resume building and networking. There are also business related clubs that can help you figure out what you want to pursue career-wise. (Btw, I’m not suggesting you only have business-related choices.)

Business Career Services does a wonderful job assisting students with job searches. https://business.illinois.edu/bcs/students/undergraduates/statistics/

Lastly, the study abroad program is outstanding. My daughter studied in Europe…Spring of her sophomore year. UIUC has made study abroad a priority. It shows in the programs they offer and the relationships they have developed with their partner schools. https://studyabroad.business.illinois.edu

Good luck with your decision!

Study-abroad at UIUC may actually be cheaper than attending there, as well, for some programs.
For study-abroad at GTech, you pay the in-state rate, I believe.
