Georgia Tech vs UW Madison for ChemE

Georgia Tech vs UW Madison for ChemE

Hi guys,
I wanted your advice and opinion when choosing between both schools, I did tons of research but couldn’t reach a conclusion😢

What I like about Georgia Tech is the high ranking and excellent school reputation. However, Georgia Tech is in Atlanta which seems to be really unsafe especially the rise in crime in recent times and this concern is really bothering me.

I like mostly everything about UW Madison except that I don’t want to leave behind Georgia Tech and regret it. I know the weather is harsh but it’s not that big of a factor to choose a school.

I hope you guys could finally let me choose between these colleges.

P.S I am an international student, and cost doesn’t matter for me as I’ll be paying the same.

Thanks :pray:t3:

If cost isn’t a factor and you know you want to do engineering, I would choose GT without hesitation.

Georgia Tech all the way. It’s by far the better school and the one that will open the most doors in a few years. It’s quite an accomplishment just to have gotten in. Bear in mind that thousands of GT students do just fine in Atlanta, and never become victims of any sort of crime. It’s a major city so you need to be aware of your surroundings when venturing out, but everybody does, almost always without incident. Also, its campus is beautiful and although in the city, is an entity unto itself. It’s even a registered arboretum because of the thousands of trees on the site. The campus is very well protected by the Georgia Tech police, who take really good care of the students and are much respected and loved.

Wisconsin is less desirable because it weeds out chemical engineering students with a 3.3 technical and 3.0 overall college GPA requirement.

GT and UW are peer schools in ChemE despite what some other posters have said. It is important to keep in mind the progression requirements at UW. Most of the difference is going to be outside the classroom. Is sounds like you the other things at UW. It has the big time sports and Madison is one of the great college towns.

Not even close. Good sports teams and a quaint college town do not a peer school make, not where the peer that aspires to match Georgia Tech is UW Madison. It’s a very desirable institution, the campus is lovely, and the sports teams are top notch. But you are misleading the student by suggesting that its ChemE academics, facilities, and ability to place the student at the highest tier of the ChemE job market can match Georgia Tech in any of those categories.

USNWR Undergraduate ChemE GT 2 UW 10
USNWR Graduate ChemE GT 4 UW 12
QS World Rankings GT 24 UW 21
Shanghai Global ChemE GT 5 UW 30

They are peer schools.

The numbers say it all, don’t they? Thanks for making my point. GT is a full ten places ahead, just from a simple assessment of averages. Not knocking UWisconsin. It’s a really good school, clearly among the best state schools in the country. But it’s not Georgia Tech.
