Georgia Tech Waitlist

Yesterday, I heard from both Georgia Institute of Technology and Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute, in which, I was "waitlisted" by both. Both pretty much said they had a lot of applicants for a small freshman class size. Apparently I have the right qualifications, or they would have denied me right? Anyway, I guess I want to vaguely ask what the waitlist really means? How much from the waitlist actually get accepted? Has anyone been "waitlisted" and want to maybe give me some advice?

Thank you in advance!

P.S. By the way, I have looked on both of their websites where they both give ambiguous answers to frequently asked questions. I have also applied to 4 UC's that I have not yet heard from.

It is information you can find on the college’s Common Data Set which you can find on their sites or google those words and the college name. In 2012, Gtech offered admission to 303 out of 704 who accepted a place on waitlist, RPI to 63 out of 1735.

You may want to re-post on the college specific forums:

In particular look at the following thread:

1) they didn’t deny you b/c if they find room, they might give you an offer later
2) WL is used by schools to have a pool to fill in any shortfall of their normally admitted people. It’s up to you whether or not you wish to remain on any school’s waitlist.
3) how many get accepted? Changes year to year. Unable to know
4) lots of ppl get waitlisted. If you truly still wish to be considered, email them a note enthusiastically telling them so and just wait. In the meanwhile, accept the offer of the best admit you’ve rec’d and begin planning to attend that other one w/o any regard to GT or RPI. That’s how it works. Good luck
