Georgia Tech

Hello, I have posted several times before but today I finally finished applying to college. I applied to two stretch schools, GA Tech and UNC. I’m curious as to what my chances are for GA tech.

4.522 weighted, 102.02 on 100 point scale, 97.8 unweighted, ranked 1/234

2080 SAT (weak point :frowning: )

AP Scholar, National Merit Commendation

5 on AP Bio and APUSH

Taken 20+ honors/AP, current schedule includes Spanish V, accelerated physics, AP chem, gov, econ, calc, lit and comp

FBLA: National qualifier for conference in Chicago, head of community service project is raising money for veterans
Mock Trial president and regional semifinalist
Science Olympiad state medalist
First chair oboe and alto saxophone section leader in marching band
A ton of community service
Spanish and math tutor
Several shadowing experiences with vets
Several leadership positions within student council

My ECs are varied, and I realize that. Is that such a bad thing? I have been told it is, but my interests are honestly well rounded. I hope to minor in business and Spanish on top of a bio major, hence the FBLA and Spanish tutoring. I’m hoping the fact I’ve achieved in all of them will make the point to the admissions committee that I was passionate about them and didn’t just go through the motions. I feel my essay was strong, as did several English teachers. Does the fact I’m going for bio rather than engineering have any selective advantage? I’m out of state in PA. I’ve already been accepted into honors at Pitt, but I’m just curious if I have a shot. Thanks!

FYI- shadowing with vets as in veterinarians

I’m no expert on GT, but I’ve looked at them a bit for my son, and I like your stats. I would think you have a good shot. Would you/your parents be able to afford out of state?

@SouthFloridaMom9 We are able to afford out of state tuition. Aside from Pitt, my top choices are Clemson, UF, and UNC.

Best of luck to you @fpawood18 !

If you are interested in Clemson at all, you may want to apply soon as housing is determined by application date . With your stats you are eligible for merit scholarships.

@carolinamom2boys I submitted my application on August 8th :slight_smile:

Good luck!

Your SAT is a little low, but your GPA makes up for that. I think Georgia Tech is a Match for you. Good luck!

@QuiteAverage90 @carolinamom2boys Thank you so much!

Georgia Tech admissions does not look at major when considering acceptances.
