German or French (Which should I take?)

Which language/country would be good for business? Someone told me French then another person told me "no no no Germans have all the money, so German."
I can't figure out which one. As for easiest to learn, I guess German would be easier for an English speaker since it's a Germanic language. I took German back in middle school but forgot most of it.

So German or French for a commerical language?

FRENCH!!! Omg i LOVE French. O and i disagree i thiink french is easier to learn, its very simple and there are a lot of cognates. And for business, well again french is a universal language. And French sounds so nice. I strongly recommend French. Bon chance mon ami!

Does French have cases? English only has a tiny amount and no gender which makes it easy. I understand, you understand, we understand, they understand would all have different endings in German. :(

French is nicer sounding.

edit: But the verb tenses are hell.

If you want to read Goethe or Nietzsche in the original langage, pick German. If you want to read Voltaire or understand Brassens, pick French.

/and it's **bonne* chance*...

I don't really have an interest in reading any of those...

Learn Mandarin then. China's becoming an economic powerhouse. It's much harder to learn than German or French for an English speaker though.

From another perspective, France had a bigger colonial empire than Germany, so I do believe French is spoken in more locations than German.

I want to live in Europe, not some third world country. Take that China.

I remember this one time my friends and me where at a restaurant and we saw this white guy sitting at a table with some Asian friends. Then he started making high and low pitch noises and we thought he was mentally retarded. The people sitting around him were all staring at him and listening carefully and then we figured out he was speaking Chinese fluently hahahaha.

Anyway, is France or Germany the business power of Europe? Which would be a nicer place to visit/live?

FRENCH!

German is still cool though.. I love Herman Hesse's work.

Looks like French is winning.

I'd take German, but that's just me.

My brother speaks German and he says that there is so many dialects in the German speaking world that you can't understand what a person is saying 10 miles away from you. But everyone can speak Standard German. I just find that kind of wierd.

I agree, take french. It's a really pretty language. I took french for quite a few years and I was in German club. German has a completely different sentence structure and you can learn french easier since you speak english. That's just MHO.

I really enjoy French. Screw Hesse, read Hugo.

german has tons of cases. My native language is spanish, but I learned english back in prekinder, and to tell you the truth english hasn't helped me with german at all. Actually, in my opinion, english can sort of mess you up with some of the pronunciation. French is a cool language, but I always sucked at it so I went for german. I like the fact that german sounds harsher, or at least it sounds that way to me, and its an awesome language to boss people around in, lol.

seriously i think the question here is much more spanish or chinese

spanish is flipping sweet though and mandarin is a ***** so theres really no question?
who in the world speaks german (ouch seriously) but come on. everyone you're going to encounter in europe with half a brain has been studying english since age 2 probably. however this is Not the case in latin/south america, which are catching up to the rest of the world faster than ever.
german is just fugly on occasion and french will make you sound like a pansy, in summary.....

In terms of business, German is the way to go. You have big companies like bayer and addidas over there. The language is also very easy to pick up on. But if I could learn any language in the world, it'd be chinese. I do feel that chinese is the place to be if you want to use it for business. I have a friend at U. Minnesota, and he tried taking arabic, but the classes were full. I'd imagine arabic and chinese to be the top two to take. French is just that pretty language :)

Ni dong le ma?

Tpeck, cannot one of more posts go without denigrating Jews, blacks, or Asians? C'mon, it's not that hard.

China's technically a second world country since they are communists.

I agree that Chinese is not a pleasant language, but neither's German.

Forgot either of them, take Italian.

I'd take German over French any day.
