GEs

Freshman in the Fall :)

I'm looking at the schedule of classes and some classes look really interesting. I've seen the GE chart which states you need 1 course for three diff. foundations (too long to name them all) so, can we take any class or should I be focused on something in specific. I know we have to take a course in each of the sub categories within the foundation, but are they all available or are some recommended?

ex. can I take Discovering Romans for Foundation of Arts and Humanities

I'm sorry if that was confusing, but your help is appreciated. Thanks!

yes you can take any GE

Also, your major pre-reqs might already cover some of the GE requirements. Like if you’re a science major, you won’t need to take additional science GEs because the life science/physics/chem classes will cover the GE requirement already.

Thank you!!

Hey! I have a really quick question, hope you don’t mind!

“I’ve seen the GE chart which states you need 1 course for three diff. foundations”

Is this chart online/where do you find it?

Thanks!

Probably a stupid question, but do upper div GEs cover your requirements under “foundations of this and that”? Seeing as you need a certain number of upper div units total that seems to be more than the ones from your major can provide, I’m assuming upper div GEs do count…

EDIT: sorry, meant to start a new topic, didn’t mean to hijack your thread OP…

If they are on the GE list, then yes. There aren’t that many though and, generally speaking, you would be better off taking the lower div ones since they should be easier. Upper div courses tend to be harder and usually geared more towards students of that major.

You typically will fill the other upper div units by taking upper div electives within your major.

thanks, that clears things up
