Get 5 waitlists, what should I do?

I’ve got waitlists from Georgia Tech, Case Western (CWRU), UW(Washington Seattle), RPI, and Fordham. But I am still considering the former two, especially GT, dying to go. I applied for major in bioengineering or biology. I think my score might be the biggest problem for GT or CWRU as an International student. I’ve got 1460 for the new SAT. Right now, I have accepted offer from NYU first. What can I do to increase my chances? Should I write a love letter or something? Please help! It will be greatly appreciated.

You write your top waitlist school a letter, updating them on any activities and reaffirming that you will go if they put you off the waiting list.

I did write to schools before, but I just found that it hadn’t worked as I expected. Like GT, they have their students replying to these emails, I don’t think it will help much. So sad…

It definitely helps. The schools collect your previous emails and reviews your application once again when they’re looking to admit waitlisted students. True, it might not help a ton, but it’s better than not submitting anything at all.

If you really wanted to get in, create a company, publish a paper, or do something amazing.

Well, I see. Thank you so much! I will try. I’ve been setting up an experiment with my classmates about the seawater movement of the Red Sea recently, hopefully it will help.

It may not help, but it would not hurt to express continue interest at the school. You may also want to find out how often those schools accept from waitlist and how many they put on the waitlist. For some schools, they may put thousands on the waitlist while admitting very few each year. You can pretty much forget those schools. In any case, don’t put much hope on the waitlist and get focus on those schools you have been admitted. Make sure you pay the deposit to one school by the deadline. You would not hear back from the waitlist school until after May 1, if that ever happens.
