First of all, my overall gpa is kinda low. My gpa was 2.62 when I was applying to ucs and csus. I have applied to ucd, ucsb, uci, ucr, ucm, sjsu, sfsu, and sacramento state. My major is econ/business econ. I thought that I can get good grade this fall, but I'm gonna get a D in my Calculus B class, and my overall gpa will be 2.66. The reason why I got this worst grade is that Calculus is really hard, and even though I studied a lot, I still can't get it, "sigh" And I won't get 60 units by the end of spring semester as I get a D in my math class. I know that I won't get into any ucs, right? Ok, I'm really panic right now. Do you think that I can get a chance to get into csus? How can I explain my situation in the January updates? Do you think that csus would allow me to retake the class in the summer? And do you think that I still have a little hopes to get into ucs? Thanks so much for your advices.

why there is nobody on my post? i really need your advices, thanks so much.

You expect someone to answer your post within six minutes?

sorry, i was really worried. take your time…

Expecting someone to comment within 6 mins is really pushing it, but i’ll bite.
UCs = no chance (don’t even think you qualify)
CSUs= I don’t know much about states for transferring, but I’m guessing decent shot at those schools with your best chance at sac state. Just go on Google and search “transfer gpa -insert csu here”
But I don’t know about the pre req’s/credit requirements, so you may want to post on those specific college boards on this website instead of UC transfers

Anything is possible, but I think you’ll get into the CSUs. They are not all that competitive. While you can (and should) retake the math class during the summer, I doubt this information would help in your admissions.

Here’s what I have found on their website.

"The majority of transfer students enter as upper-division transfers. Upper-division transfers must complete at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units before transfer.

Some transfers will enter as lower-division transfers. If, at the time you will enter the CSU, you have completed 59 or fewer semester or 89 or fewer quarter units you are a lower-division transfer. Some CSU campuses do not accept lower-division transfers, so be sure to check with the campus if you are considering transfer as a lower-division student."

I think you still have a good chance at certain CSUs’.

I like pie.

despite that math class, i will have 57.5 units by the end of spring. so do csus allow me to retake that math class in the summer before entering csus?

no everything must be done before the end of spring. y not just add Calc B on ur sprng load, im sure ull get it the second time around. and its a 2.4 GPA to qualify for UCs (except UCB’s college of L&S the minimum is 3.0) u u still have a shot at the UCs, mreced being your best bet.

…you are not out at all the UCs. As CalBearGuy mentioned above, you still have a decent shot at some of the “lower” UCs such as Merced and Riverside.

My suggestion would be to retake that Math Class and try your best. Contrary to what people say, the “top” CSUs are also fairly competitive (depending on major). For example, I think CSULB is “impacted” for some majors, but Business Econ and Econ are not impacted. That said, CSULB (OVERALL) is one of the most impacted CSU campuses. The link below gives their transfer gpa info. For your major (Economics) the “low end” gpa was 2.70 and the average was 3.08. For Business Econ they were a bit higher at 3.12 and 3.25.

[CSULB Enrollment Services](http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/admissions/transfer_gpa.html)

So, if those are the numbers for an impacted campus, I think you will be just fine at most of the other CSUs (except for the top 2 or 3, where you still have a shot, but a very good one). Also, you DO NOT need to complete all required courses by spring for the CSUs (except for the 2nd English course & speech communication, which is common to all majors). That is only a UC requirement. And if I remember correctly, some of the lower UCs also do not have that requirement. However, you DO have to have 60 units by spring (check this requirement at the CSUs to be sure). So if you plan on taking Calc II in the summer you will need to take some other course in the spring to “make up” the 60 units! Explain all of this to the UCs when you send in the update info.

victor5555, thanks so much for your detailed information. yeah, i’m gonna retake cal II in the summer. but the things is that I can’t make up 60 units by the end of spring, because i can’t be eligible for taking overloaded units. and i can’t take another classes at other cc too, because all the classes are full now, “sigh” i’m really panic right now.

Your easily in at UCR, UCSC, and UCM… But they are the trash UC schools…

Some UCs allow you to complete the required 60 units by summer, but I think UCR, UCSC and UCM are the only ones.

i dont get how ur GPA goes from 2.62 to a 2.66 after getting a D in Calc B, unless u got like As in a bunch of other classes.
