<p>Just a word of advice for all you young whippersnappers.</p>
<p>So back in 10th-11th grade I completely abused my sleep cycle. I'd sleep at 3 am one night and 5 pm the next. I'd get five hours a night for weeks on end, or oscillate between three and sixteen. Sometimes I'd sleep until midnight and work until 6 am. I studied in bed, so I'd rarely make a concerted effort to go to sleep and simply collapsed when I got tired. I ended up drooling on a lot of my textbooks.</p>
<p>Don't be like me. Now I can't get to sleep without a light on and a math textbook by my side. I've actually pulled all-nighters this year just because I couldn't get to sleep. Even if your body's told you it's gotten used to five hours of sleep by now...don't believe it. It'll come back to bite you in the end. No AP class is worth killing your biological clock for. You might brag about how little sleep you're getting now...but trust me, it hurts later on.</p>
<p>Off to try and sleep again. It'll probably be another hour before it actually happens.</p>
<p>Kids at my school (prestigious selective public) brag about how little sleep they can get. Yes, I can get by for a few days on 4-5 hours a night, but why would I? I can manage my time and be responsible and know my body, and if I can get 6-7 hours of sleep a night and get mostly As, why should I feel less "cool" or "intelligent" than the kids who don't?</p>
<p>Yeah, since when has not sleeping being cool? It's like a competition to be the most sleep deprived. I swim so I have to wake up at 4 so I go to bed at 9, so when my friends are like "I didn't go to bed till 3:00 last night." "Lucky, I went to bed at 5:15.", I just say "I went to bed at 9:00 because I actually get my homework done efficiently. Seriously how does one spend 5 hours STUDYING?</p>

<p>The people that I know that are up that late usually aren't spending all of their time studying. A lot of people (like myself) procrastinate or sleep until 10pm, and then work until 1am or later. It's not the best thing to do, and sleep deprivation is definitely not something to brag about, but it happens. My excuse is that I work more efficiently later at night, though I know better time management and possibly a little motivation could change that.</p>
<p>This is good advice...I used to stay up so late my soph and jr years...Now I can't fall asleep earlier than 1 am....-__- and if I can I wake up at like 3 am</p>

I had a very good, if not awesome sleeping cycles back in my junior and sophomore year. But this year, I'm screwed.
AP classes+clinical procrastination+anxiety contributed to this.. idk about you guys.. but procrastination cost me a lot...
When it is time to do my homework, I'd always pick up a random book---say, Beyond Good and Evil---and then contemplate on the book for three to four hours. Sometimes I would even talk with myself on some random subjects for hours.... and then when it is 11:PM, I go to bed and wake up at 3 AM to do the homework... but seriously, this year I done almost all my homework at school~~</p>
<p>Noooooo, I will mess up my Bio. Clock if it gets me in 'A' in all my classes...
I don't care what any people say, it is worth messing up...if i get Bs how will i get into the top tier schools?
I feel uber guilty cause I'm procrastinating now...I guess I'll stay up till 3...and finish my homework tonight so i have none later.</p>
<p>i blame my lack of sleep on my inability to do homework during the day. I always end up doing it at night when its quiet and I can just concentrate. It gets worse when it's summer because I waste a half the day when I sleep at 2 am and wake up at 12 pm the next day.</p>
<p>I like doing it at night, too, but there's a difference between not sleeping at all because you procrastinated til 3 AM and going to bed at 9 and waking up at 3:30.</p>
<p>5 hours of sleep is sufficient if one exercises regularly and gets some sunlight throughout the day. try and utilize body temperature fluctuations, and always go to bed at the same time. no sleeping in on weekends, this will mess up the rhythm, and will be counterproductive. try and wake up while in REM stage. 8 hours of sleep is unhealthy.</p>
<p>^ 5 hours is unhealthy. Even 6 hours is sometimes unhealthy in the long run. 7 Hours will suffice and 8 hours is ideal.
