Get a 'W' this semester?

Hey guys,

I'm considering dropping an Ecology class (I'm a Psychology major), a class that isn't even required for my major. It's early in the morning (too early), the professor is terrible (hustling to get a B... thus making my GPA not a 4.0), and the assignments aren't taught to us so we wing assignments.

I'm REALLY STRONGLY considering dropping this course. The thing is, would it look bad since I'm applying to UC Irvine and now I have a 'W' right at the Fall? I would only be taking 9 units after this... I need to know my options. I've had Ws in the past (3?) so that plays a factor too.

Any good advice is greatly appreciated.

‘W’ do not matter for undergraduate schools. ‘W’ could mean a lot of things, I had to drop a class for financial reasons, family reasons, health, and etc.
Your major + GPA is what matters.
Do you need Ecology for biological science requirement? If you did TAG you do not need a 4.0 GPA, a 3.2 minimum would suffice. And besides, your GPA will reset once you attend UCI.

If the class isn’t for your major and is simply a GE class, then getting a C in the class wouldn’t hurt you too bad. A 4.0 GPA is great but don’t pull your hairs out trying to get it; a 3.8 GPA would suffice especially applying to UCI.

Since you already have 3 W’s, I would finish the class out and aim for a B. It won’t hurt you too much and having 4 W’s might look a bit worse.

@lawlking: No, I don’t need Ecology at all. I took it because I entered this semester expecting to do Criminology, but now it’s Social Behavior.

@Siroucity: That’s true… sigh.
