hey everyone, im new to this site, it’s unfortuante to say that i was being caught cheating at my school. although my transcrpts were out before this incident happened, but i do get an F or D for the subject, i used to have a relatively good grades about 3.6 unweighted and 3.9 weighted, 6 aps and several awards. i was accepted to the one of the top 10 engineering schools, does anybody know anybody who had similiar experience? and what are the consequences in terms of college admissions?

I have no idea what will happen but I am interested to know why you were cheating after you got accepted. Not passing judgement...

well, your GPA will drop and I believe you may have to report the incident in writing, unfortunately. To be honest, it's not going to look good because cheaters are not wanted in college. In fact, in college if you cheat, you're basically gone.

Yikes, what did you do? Was it plagerism (bad), copying (bad) of homework or a test? If I were your mamma, I be soooo.....anyway, grovel, beg, apologize, plead insanity, whatever - they will report it, so be prepared

Cheating... I'm sorry to say but that very likely is going to have a huge impact on your admissions. More then likely your school will report it, and that very well could cost you admissions. What did you you exactly, since generally plagerism seems to be about the worst offense when it comes to cheating. I only go to a CC right now, but even at this type of college it's not rare for students to be kicked out for some time if cought cheating.

collegefear, cheating won't be taken lightly. I think you'd have to report it to the place you've been accepted, and your school would also try to lower your marks for whatever you cheated on. It depends on what it was - a test, an assignment, or hw? if it was something like hw, i think that the college you got accepted to MIGHT look over it, but if it was something big like a test or exam, they'll prob take it more seriously...

...if you do end up having to report it to the college, i think it would be a good idea to somehow let them know that you are upset about what you did, and are taking measures to ensure you will never do it again...let them know that it will never happen again, you know?

...someone in my school (a senior) was caught cheating on a final exam, and she had also been accepted a few places. she had to report to all of the universities, and she got a 0 on that exam. it turned out that a couple of the more high-profile colleges rejected her outright, but some of the lower-profile ones just requested a letter of explanation/repentance...

...and that's my two cents. gluck :)

allena said it best the cheating incident could cause your admission to be rescinded. The F on your transcript is not going to do anything for your acceptances, In addition GC will have to report it

Collegefear, you need to set up an appointment with your counselor, the disciplinary counselor, a teacher that you can work with, and find out exactly how your school is going to handle this and get some advice on the best thing for you to do. Hopefully, you are truly sorry, and that this is a lesson learn, and you are doing some sort of penance for it, such as tutoring kids having trouble in the subject. And you should plan to continue doing this throughout the summer. But whatever, you do should dovetail with what your school is going to do so that you are not at cross purposes with each other.

Sad to say, many public schools do nothing. I know a young man who was caught cheating after being accepted to William & Mary. He was punished by being stripped of his membership in the Honor Society and some other internal disciplinary action was imposed, but the school did not tell the college, nor did he. He is there today, I know, and I doubt he learned a thing, knowing him.

Reading the OP, an amendment is already in order: the unfortunate thing isn't that you were caught cheating, the unfortunate thing is that you were cheating. If the school reports this, you can most likely kiss your acceptance good bye. And if I were your GC, I'd probably report it...might be the best thing that ever happened to you.

well i hope that you don't get into much trouble.

What exactly did you do?

sign, it was stupid,, i cheated on the final exam with a sheet under the test. it was kind stupid why i cheated, i didn't take it that seriously, it was my last exam and i was stressed out with other exams and thought using a cheat sheet will secure my chance of getting an A. thank you all so much for the posts, my school, however said will not report to the colleges i applied unless the application asked specifically about the discplinary action during high school. it turns out that virginia tech is the only one that does. i'm really depressed since all this happened, cause i was never a cheat or anything, i've seen many of my friends cheat and on the same day, there wer 4 other kids cheated in that class, i wasn't alone. i really didn't think of it as a big deal and be hoenst, the way i got caught was the stupidiest thing ever, my friends called me a stupid cheater after all. i'm trying my best to get an A this semester and hopefully that'll make the D/F look better on teh final report. sigh, if anyone out there think they're too good to get caught, well, u might be right on that, but it's good that it happened in high school not in college where the consequences will be even worse.

i dont think reporting to colleges will teach a student a good lesson. i guess it all depends on the students. personally, i think i suffered a lot psychologically, and if making me not get into the colleges i worked for all my life, that is way too cruel.

collegefear, I'm with TheDad and some of the others. When I read your post, I didn't see even one iota of regret. Now tell the truth - this wasn't your first time cheating, was it?

okay,, u know what i really hate and hate myself for over this thing is EVERYONE starts assuming that i'm not first time cheater, the teacher later on even told me that i'm the stupidiest cheater she's ever seen in her life. it is my first time, and i'm not here to express my regret to ppl on CC, i'm here to know more about the consequences. for the love of god, why does everyone have to be so judgemental about it. and to answer the previous post, the cheating happened before any of my college acceptance letter

wow!!!! this is new, actually not that new, see too much cheating going on in our school anyway. let's not fight, shall we? collegefear, if u truly learned something from the incident, then i wish u the best luck, but if u didn't,, well,,, i'm sure someday you'll get caught doing something worse and the consequence, my friend, will be ugly, ugly, ugly,!!

Wow, thats pretty blatant cheating my man

however, it sucks to be the one kid who actually gets caught

everyone at my school does it some way or the other, its pretty much known

Almost all colleges make their admissions offer contingent on seeing your final transcript from high school. Any drop in grades - even a one time thing - can be cause for having admission revoked.

When they see that "F", they are going to have some serious questions and will want an explanation, even if your school does not formally report the cheating violation to them in advance. Getting an A for the second semester may not be enough.

Many schools will rescind admissions for a single F on the final transcript, especially if it brings your GPA down significantly OR is an F in a course they require for admissions. Even if they don't rescind admissions automatically, there's a good chance that they will call the school to inquire about that F and that your GC will fill them in on why you received the grade.

I think this is a case where you need to sit down and talk to your guidance counselor about what your strategy should be in handling the potential consequences of that failing grade on your transcript. It may be wise to come clean with your schools now so you can make some alternate plans if necessary. Your guidance counselor may be able to contact admissions of your various schools on your behalf and determine what action, if any, they will take. Good luck - you will need it.

i copied some phrases from spark notes once in english class. my english teacher found out. and she said " get the hell out of here and i wont give u blue card"

copying (bad) of homework

Oh c'mon now... Cheating on a test, quiz, or plagarizing an essay is serious, but copying homework? Those are small beans.

is it an academic class?

if so, enroll in a CC class if possible.
