Get chanced for Northeastern EA here!!

So people began chancing on the decisions thread (myself included, sorry), which was not meant for that. So maybe we can post stats here and have one giant chance thread. If not, well...could someone at least chance me please? Thank you!

•SATII: Chemistry (700), Literature (710)

Thank you again and good luck everyone! Go Huskies :)

I think you have a really good chance. Strong stats and ECs.

@ahumandalek yeah you’ve got a pretty good chance I’d say! I have high hopes for everyone though lol

You have a high as heck chance, OP.

My stats are sort of embarrassing but here goes nothing.

Female applying for physics.

GPA: 3.62 unweighted, approx 4.2 weighted

SAT: is so embarrassing 1770 in total oh my god I’m so bad at tests okay

Approx rank: 8th out of 83.

4/6 possible AP’s finished by graduation: English Lit, English Lang, Physics B, Statistics and will be taking Calculus exam though I’m in honors (because we do AP work anyway, we have AP books). The rest of all my classes ever have been honors.

I go to an arts school so they’ll either take that as “*** you’re insane” or “wow what a well rounded individual.”

EC’s/Activities/All that Crap: babysitting forever, National Honor Society, Theatre Program, 8 years of Polish Language outside of school, Piano, School Newspaper. Last year I started a self published zine. Paid work as a receptionist. Volunteer at local humane society.

Essay: fantastic, was read over by my creative writing teachers (that’s my department at school, so I lucked out there) and English teacher. Very little edits had to be made, pertains to career/long term goals.

Recs: Amazing. Shocking even as to how good they were.

Northeastern is a bit of a reach for me. I know this. It’s still my dream school so obviously I put my all into it. I’m hoping my high gpa and well written essay will compensate for my awful SAT score (super scored, btw. cries)…

I’m also hoping as a girl with permanent residency rather than citizenship going into science that will help me too.

I think that both of you have very good chances with strong ECs to back up your high scores.

@marty I think Northeastern is a reach, but still possible.

Intended Major: Computer Science
GPA: 95/100 UNWEIGHTED (3.93)
Best ACT Composite - 32 (33 Superscore)
—Best English Score - 35
—Best Math Score - 32 (had a 760 SAT I, but not submitting SAT I)
—Best Reading Score - 32
—Best Science - 31
—Best Combined - 31
SAT II: 770 Math II
Essays: Common app essay - very good (teacher and counselor loved it)
Counselor Rec: Very good
Teacher Recs: Good
E.C.'s: Pretty Good - Varsity Athlete, Science&Math-focused

I think the first 2 should get in and 3 is a high matchish? Good luck to you all!

My turn :3

GPA: 88.8 UW 92.98 W
Rank: 43/647

Ton of work at family owned restaurant

Applied to the Business school - Undecided

Haven’t sent in senior year grades but I have a 93.4 UW with 6 APs this quarter.

Be honest. I’m nervous lol

Good recs
Great essay

P.S. I’m an Asian male from New York. Help!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think jibler is in

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

^ I think you’ll get in jibler. Same with brann

Low reach for marty? Hopefully they really focus on everything besides the SAT because you’ve got a lot to offer

My first ever chance me post:

Female applying for a Political Science Major.
GPA: 4.0 (UW) and 4.26 (W; my school doesn’t really do weighted GPA’s and keeps it out of a 4.0 scale)

Ranked: 6/83; Top 10%

SAT: 1930 (I honestly think this is the weakest part of my application. They are good, but not super good in my opinion)

A total of 8 AP classes by graduation (5 senior year)
**The most my school offers/ and in all honors classes prior to AP

Essay: I think it was pretty well done. I had my English teacher and guidance counselor look over it.
Great Recs

Demonstrated Interest by applying EA and visiting the campus

NE is one of my top choices so I’m really hoping I get in  fingers crossed the news comes soon.

@bostonbound424 @ahumandalek and @jibler I think you guys should get in. Brann I think you will too though your GPA is pulling you down just a bit IMO.

Marty, I think it’s a bit of a reach however, I know what it’s like to feel like you can’t get in to your dream school, so just hold on to hope. You never know what could happen when an admissions counselor reads the rest of your app.

Good luck to everyone though!! :)

Hey everybody I’m a high school senior and my dream school is Northeastern. Im currently in the final year of the IB program (generally considered more rigorous), and I was just wondering what my chances would probably be.

I don’t have the best grades and SAT but im hoping my strong essay and above average EC’s will make up for it. I live in Switzerland currently but have previously lived in New Jersey, Singapore, and Bangkok. I hope to major in International Relations/Affairs.

Extracurricular Activities & Achievements:
-Student League of Nations (held in official U.N hall)

SAT - 1800 (R-600 M-590 W-610)
Essay: Strongest part of my application; essentially about my experience speaking at the U.N Assembly Hall for Student League of Nations

The bottom link is basically a resource my school offers, which is a scattergram where you stand against previous applicants from the same school. For example, the image below shows applicants from my school who have also applied to Northeastern, and in this case there have no denials so far. The green square means accepted, the green square with the triangle means accepted through early action, and the empty red circle is me. Thank you guys so much!!!

SCATTERGRAM: http://postimg.org/image/hou1glr9l/

•SAT: Superscore is a 2340 (800 Writing, 800 Crit, 740 Math)
•GPA: 4.1W, 3.94 UW (I think), my school doesn’t rank but I believe I’m number 2
•APs: U.S History (5), Literature (5)

Very strong teacher recs, decent guidance one (though it’s just a laundry list of accomplishments and nothing special)

*Also: I transferred schools between freshman and sophomore years, so I’ve only been here for three years. Getting recs was hard, but the ones I got are really good.

Thanks!!!

Counselor Rec: Probably generic, We talk a lot but I might have annoyed with too many questions? Not sure.

Other:
Location: NC, USA

School: Very Large Public, Extremely Competitive (one of the best in the state)

Ethnicity/Gender: Asian, Male

Income Range: 130K, did not apply for any financial aid

Hooks: None……

Pretty sure I have a low chance, but here:
•ACT: Got a 26 and 27, superscore should be a 28 I believe.
•GPA: My school only does unweighted, 3.75. I think northeastern will weigh it, right?
•APs: AP US History (5) and AP English (currently). I also took the AP Lang test last year without the class and got a 3.
•Language: 2 years of spanish, unable to fit it into my schedule again.
•Senior year: journalism, personal finance, painting, photo, ap engish, duel enrollment college class second semester: gov/econ, enviro science, online class tbd, ap english, journalism, and a duel enrollement college class. My school makes it hard to fit in ap classes. there are prerequists normally and it’s hard to fit them all into junior and senior year. Also, we only have a few honors classes and only recently started offering them.
•ECs: Journalism, NHS, service organization partnered with the optimist club, and student ambassador, and work part time.
•I think that my essay was strong and really conveyed my passion for journalism
•I think I chose good reccomenders, however, I never saw the letters. One was my apush teacher, the other my precalc teacher. Both I had very good relationships with and excelled in their class.
•Applied journalism.

anything else: i’ve gotten academic awards, editor in chief of my newspaper, and I think i did good with ec’s and ap classes based on what my school offers and how easy I can get into them. I hope northeastern takes that into consideration.

@bornpuremichigan everything is fine, but the ACT is just too low. The average sat is liek a 1950-2100, but your act is like a 1750. But dont give up hope!

my turn! im applying for pharm:
weighted gpa 3.9

sat score 1980 ( 610 reading 660 math 710 writing)

SAT math ii 710

LEGACY STATUS - dad attended undergraduate and graduate school, also gave money each year since he graduated. We just gave in 200$ recently for november

student council president/historian
orchestra council vice president
YWCA lifeguard
swim teacher
