Average gpa for admission to comm as a 4 yr student is about 3.75. It's closer to 3.85 for transfers.

I'm sure that some people get accepted with lower than a 3.7, but I really wouldn't count on it. All they do is look at your gpa and take the top ones (not sure how many continuing students they take per year, but I know it's not too many), so your status kind of depends on the applicant pool. One year there might be a ton of people with 3.9s which will pull the average higher, and some years it might be lower. Honestly my biggest piece of advice is that if you're really serious about comm, and it seems that you are, keep your GPA as high as you can. If you can get it really high your first year and manage to stand out, you'll probably be admitted sooner.

It's possible to be accepted as a second year, but not too typical. I know a handful (maybe 4?) people who did, and they're all really, really exceptional students.

I came in as a transfer, so I can't really help with the courses.

I would check out this thread, where more people know about entering as a 4yr student. I would specifically look at Aiko's post (she's somewhat embittered towards the major, but has good advice nonetheless). ps the allie that posted there isn't me. just fyi.

Thank you everybody on CC!

I have chosen UCLA largely because of your reassurance (and monetary reasons)!

These are going to be the best four years ever!!!!
