Anyone who wants to go to a competitive Med School should have a GPA around there (and a high MCAT, of course). Now my question goes, should i be prepared to work my ass off? High school has been breezy and even though AP classes are supposed to simulate college environment, they haven't been too stressful. Therefore, can anyone give me an comparison, and the efforts needed to get 3.7+??
Also, I heard that Mcgill's biochem is insanely difficult. Can anyone compare its difficulty to biology and psychology?

From what I've heard, it's hell. But you have to realize that they really do have excellent med school placement...

I'm planning on doing the same, esp. biochemistry, so I want to know more :)

as someone who knows a few 3.7+ babies, you should be prepared to goto tutorials and put an a$$ load of time into your studies, take my word on it. Those kids don't get those marks by loafing around.

I don't know about biology and psychology specifically, but the curriculum most U0 science kids take is physics, calculus, chemistry, and biology (the engineers don't usually take bio). As I'm currently a U0 engineering student, I only know the difficulty of the calculus, chemistry, and physics curriculums, and I can tell you first hand that it seems easy at first. It only gets harder. I've worked more in the past 2 months, than I have in total my entire time here (which is only a semester and some change).

Physics, and Calculus finals ARE your grade (the physics final was 60%, the calculus was 70%/90% depending). If you eff up the final, you eff your grade, it's that simple. Chemistry is more under control, but some classes are even more intense. My linear algebra final last semester was worth 85%...the class average was a C (or C- I don't remember). That was after a substantial curve because too many kids failed (I personally thought more would, though).

From last year's posts I heard that the placement for medical school was really good, on par with more elite american colleges... do you think that's actually true??

(the website makes it seem that way, but if the average gpa is a 2 point something, I've got to worry).

eff if I know how good the med school placement is. I DO know, however, that a ton of kids here are on pre-med tracks...

ya thats not good. oh man they accept like 75 people a year into med school from undergrad.
bump...
