getting 800 is bad?

I have 800 Math IIC, 800 Chinese, 780 Bio, and 780 USH.

I want to apply to UCs.

Problem is, UC only takes the top 2 SATII scores. But since I'm Chinese, they will most likely ignore that SATII. There's a problem though. Not only is that score counted in my top 2 scores, it basically holds no weight because it is such an easy SATII. Will colleges just look at the next highest score, or are they forced to factor a meaningless SAT II into your app?

Sorry if this is kinda a stupid question.

If they actually did count out the 800 chinese (proof?), they'd still take one of your 780s - they'd have to to be fair to all applicants. 800 + 780 is excellent for all UCs.

But really, what makes you think that they would ignore the 800 which you call "meaningless"? Colleges use the SAT IIs to see whether you have a certain set of knowledge (much of which - though never all - is picked up from school), not to see how many students score lower than you. For example, UC does not accept the Math IC, even though percentile-wise the Math IC is "harder" than the IIC. Why? Because the IIC tests the knowledge that UC wants its applicants to have, whereas the IC does not. Don't judge a test by the test-takers.

To muddy the waters further, there's no way UC can tell for certain how much of your knowledge of Chinese comes from your background at home and how much comes from what you've studied in school or in books; thus, they cannot really justify simply ignoring the chinese score unless, of course, they tell you up front (in which case you can "fall back" on one of your excellent 780s). I somehow doubt that you have anything to worry about.

If this were the SAT Reasoning test, you would have already failed. The answer is E, no problem in your situation.

There is no college, anywhere in the world, who will hold an 800 on the Chinese exam against you. Most take the top 2 SAT II exams, so if you got an 800 on the Chinese, they will count it, even if you are Chinese. And if for some reason they don't, they'll take one of your 780's...End of discussion.

Applicants with 3 SAT II scores to HARVARD that are above a 720 are considered academically superior. You have four, and they are all at a 780 or above.

You do realize, by the way, that the AVERAGE subject test scores for the UCs are in the upper 600's? And I don't mean Irvine. I mean Berkeley.

<a href="http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp%5B/url%5D">http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp</a></p>

The people on this board baffle me...why are you worrying about stuff like this? I have a 700 on the Math IIC, and that puts me in the upper half of the class at Berkeley, if I were applying there.

There is no such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid people. I'll forgive you, and call this a momentary lapse of thinking that occurred in the wee hours of the morning...but really now. Stop worrying. This is almost as bad as the people who get a 2360 on the SAT and consider retaking it.

thx for the responses

i dont kno what i was thinking heh. im really not THAT arrogant, and i wasnt trying to be.

lol, don't worry about it. If anything, you gave me a little bit of amusement. :)
