I am positive im gonna get a 1 on the Chemistry AP.

I dont want to go into too much detail; it really doesnt matter. All I care is that im being exempt from taking the final.

Does it matter if I get a 1? Meaning, will colleges see it and think less of me, or can I just never send it in? I basically want to know if there are any downsides to getting a 1 (besides for wasting $)

Unless your chem class is ridiculously awful (since your post implies that you have a high enough grade to exempt the final), I highly doubt that you’ll be getting a 1 even without studying if you do your best on the exam.

I know that colleges ask for AP scores, but they’re self-reported…if you’re a senior who already applied then it really doesn’t matter. If you’re going to apply to colleges next year, I hear that they don’t take that much into account, but I wouldn’t take that chance with selective colleges…for most colleges though I don’t think it will affect admissions, BUT please confirm this with someone who knows better than me. You’ll be happy to hear that most colleges consider grades more than AP scores (again, check this with someone else).

My Chemistry class is indeed awful. I have a 91 in the class right now and I have no clue what’s going on in the class. Our teacher is African and has a very distracting accent, only recently became a teacher, and does not know how to teach. I just do the work and get the easy As, I don’t actually know anything.

Can someone please confirm if it looks bad to straight up bomb an AP?

I’m in almost the exact same situation. My AP Chem teacher was awful I have really low expectations for the exam. I’m only taking it to get out of finals. I’m so thankful this happened senior year instead of last year. Last year, this would have been really stressful.

I forgot you could do that, semaphore is correct. Your best course of action would probably be to take the exam, then if you believe you did terribly, cancel it ASAP. Not sure how much it costs to cancel if any, though.

That’s no excuse to get a 1 man…I had a horrible Chemistry teacher who didn’t even teach the material right and I got a 4 last year…crammed at the end with Crash Course and read Zumdalh a bit…not that hard dude…

Canceling is free. If you do it early enough it should not show up on your score report though I’m not sure. If you cancel after you get your score report it will not show up on future score reports but will still exist in the score report you got. Hopefully your school doesn’t keep track of your AP scores.

hmmm… my teacher would be very angered if I cancelled, and so would my principal. I go to a small private school and one of their major concerns is AP performance and I don’t want to **** anyone off.
