If you get a 3 on the exam, could it badly affect your score? For example, schools like UC Berkeley. Or, do they not care at all and it just helps you get more credit?

you don’t have to send them your scores; in fact, i don’t think many people send colleges AP scores. just don’t self-report your 3 if you’re so concerned about it

Do colleges want to know your AP scores though? What about a competitve school? How would they know that you took the test though?

Of course they would like to know your AP scores, but if you have a bad one, don’t report it.

Personally, I would leave the 3 off of self-reporting because Berkeley only takes 4’s and 5’s. If you have a small AP record, though, adding it may be a benefit.

The University of California grants credit for AP tests with scores of 3, 4 or 5. For some specific course credit, a score of 4 or 5 is required, but a score of three will still be granted elective credit in that case.

For Berkeley’s specific credit policies, including which courses require 4s or 5s for specific credit (3s are still given *elective credit *even if the specific course requirement is a 4 or 5) check here: [University of California - Counselors](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/freshman/advising/credit/berkeley.html)

And there is no need to “hide” any of your AP scores:

Oh, ok. Thanks. :)
