So, I'm a senior in high school (graduating a year early) and this year I was really stressed out. I took a total of 10 courses this semester and that led me to get a B in Art History 1 and a C in Art History 2. I hate history classes. How will the C in Art History 2 be viewed to medical schools? Will it not be so bad since I'm still in high school? I took the course at a community college, btw.

I really want to attend at top 20 medical school. I know this won't "ruin" my chances, but does it hurt me severely?

Also, Emory University (the college I am attending) will not accept any transfer credit from my community college. If I retake these courses, when I send both transcripts to the colleges will it still look really bad? Thanks.

If you hate art history, why in the world would you retake it?

Med school will not discriminate between co-enrolled high school courses and courses you took in college. Both go on your record and are computed into your GPA that same.

One or two Cs won’t make or break your chances, but the “I hate…” attitude will, because pre-med requirements and the MCAT weren’t devised for everyone’s convenience.

There’s plenty of time to remedy your situation. If the Cs become a trend, that’s when you get concerned.

*I took a total of 10 courses this semester *

???

You took TEN classes this semester? WHY?

And why would you take TWO Art History classes? It’s unlikely that both were needed.

What is your cum GPA…and what is your sGPA.

It doesn’t matter what Emory does with a CC class. If you want to dilute the C by taking a DIFFERENT class, you can take one at a CC. It’s what AMCAS does with your grades, not Emory.

I’m insane I know. :(

Cum GPA: 3.53
Science GPA: 4.0

If you took 10 (~33 credits?) classes in one semester and still managed to get a 3.53, you’ll be fine. The average matriculating GPA is about a 3.65; you have plenty of time to bump your GPA up.
