Getting a College Degree while in High School?

I am a junior in high school now but by the time I graduate, I will have taken enough college classes to have an A.Sc in math. I know it’s not a “great” degree, but since I am doing it while I am in high school, will it give me an edge in college admissions (to MIT, CalTech, some ivies, etc.)? I am applying for freshmen admission this fall.

Thanks in advance.

having lots of advanced classes, esp math classes, will definitely help. Whether or not you have fulfilled all the requirements for an assoc. degree from your local CC is probably not important.

Yeah that's what I figured. The classes I will have taken by high school graduation (June 2006) are:

Calculus I (Differential)
Calculus II (Integral)
Calculus III (More Diff./Integral + Sequences & Series)
Calculus IV (Multivariable)
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations I
Differential Equations II

Also, some calculus-based physics classes going beyond the AP Physics C (M/E&M) syllabus.

I believe at the community college, Calculus I, II, and III together are equivalent to AP Calculus BC.

that's what I would guess also just looking at your list. Someone at the CC should be able to tell you.

Don't get your hopes up too much about getting credit for all 7 courses when you go to college. The 4 semesters calculus sequence you had at the CC would be 3 semesters at most colleges, and 2 semesters at some. Also diff eq. would generally be just 1 semester.

If I got into any of the schools I really want to (MIT, CalTech, ivies), then I would retake all of them. I'm not taking them for advanced standing, I'm taking them because I was ahead in math and didn't want to take a couple years off (I also really like it). I have heard that people who have gone to ivies and used their AP credit fell behind in their classes. Every college has different expectations, so I would just start over with a good intro. to what I will learn you know?

I did your 7 classes in 4 semesters of Calculus... I really wish that there was a uniform system for things like this, because it's annoying.

Where do you go to school?

taking all of them over again is probably overkill. MIT and Caltech both have exams you can take during freshman orientation that will help with appropriate placement, maybe into a more theoretical version of the same thing rather than an intro, or maybe a faster paced version for people with prior background.
