Getting a D in a "non-required" AP class second semester of senior year

I might get a D in AP Physics this semester. Is it possible that my admission to Chapman University will get revoked? I'm not sure about their conditional acceptance policy. I didn't "need" to take the class this year, because I had already fulfilled my science requirements for my high school and the university, but so I did, and now this is the result of me being overworked.

At the time of my admission I had around a 4.0 GPA average and a 2050 SAT.

Yes it is possible. Generally colleges reserve the right to rescind your admission for any grade lower than a C. However, colleges handle on a case-by-case basis, so you might not get rescinded.

I think you should do everything to get a C. It doesn’t matter required or not., that’s what you took. Presumably this was reported as your Sr class schedule.

It is possible. Your current year schedule is a factor in the admissions process so you can’t just walk away and say you don’t need the class now. Time to get to work to get that grade up to a C. See the teacher after school every day, hire a tutor – in short do whatever it takes.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to bring my grade up, even if it kills me (although if that actually happens, I won’t have to worry about getting into college anymore, haha).

However, if I do get a D, is it possible for me to retake the course at a community college this summer, earn an acceptable grade, and have it re-mediate my grade of a D?

You’d have to check with Chapman on that one. Some schools are lenient with that kind of thing, other’s…not so much.

The people that know work in Chapman admissions. If you get a D you should contact them and ask. In fact its not a bad idea to start talking with them now. If you don’t get a D then no harm. If you do, then you’ve already begun to consider options and won’t miss any registration deadlines.
