Hi, I received a bad grade in one of my classes this past quarter and I know that Cal Poly has the right to rescind my admission for it, HOWEVER, there are a couple of things I’m confused about.
1: I never reported the course as being in progress on my application
2: Even though I got a D, my quarterly GPA was still a 3.3
Does this make a difference whether or not I reported the course as in progress or not?
Depends what the class is in. If you are planning on majoring in Biology and you get a D in AP Bio then they might call you ask you what happened. It’s rare for a college to rescind your admission but I’ve had a few friends who that has happened to so it can happen. Honestly what you should do is call your counselor (or whatever person they assigned you at Cal Poly) and give them a heads up of what is going on so they aren’t blind sided by it.
Thanks for the advice! I called Cal Poly’s admissions office and was given the contact info of my admissions counselor. I sent said person a short but thoughtful email explaining that I expect to get a D in that course and asking if we could speak further about my admission. That was 5 days ago and I still haven’t gotten a response and to be honest it’s stressing me out because I’m trying to make travel plans to go visit and make a decision before the May 1st deadline and I can’t while my application is still in limbo.
Does your HS post quarterly grades on the final transcript? If not, you should be Ok if you can get it up to a C by end of year. Although my son’s got quarterly grades, these were never on the official transcript. SLO will go by what ends up on that final transcript. I would try to contact the admissions counselor by phone if you have not heard by the end of the week.
Thank you for your kind words! I realize now that while it’s great to be up front and honest, I probably should have left it alone since it wasn’t a class I reported as in progress. Now it has sent my application back into review and it won’t be fixed until the transcripts make it to Cal Poly which will be after the May 1st deadline
