I had a D in one term for a course, but retook that half course (one term) online and got an A+, (the counselor says the D will show up on paper, but the A will show too and the A will replace the D in my GPA) ...but how would it look to colleges?

Would it be okay since you retook it and did well, or would it still be absolutely horrible because of the first D that I got. Colleges for exampe like tulane, vanderbilt, barnard, emory, etc. Not hyp etc though.

well, my freshman year grades consisted of A's, B's, and few C's, but my sophomore/junior years are full of A's, and the D was in Geometry Honors during my freshman year. Major upward trend later though. Around 3.6 uw gpa w/ the hardest classes taken.

Is there some kind of explanation for the D (extended illness, learning disability, family troubles, etc)? Or did you just have trouble with the material or not work hard?

If there's some kind of explanation that the counselor can put on your form, you're all set, no worries. If not, it doesn't look good, but it's not too big a deal, since you did fine in the class later and it was a difficult class in your freshman year. So, either way, don't stress.

the 2nd half of my freshman year (which i took geometry) i moved to a new school AND got mono so I was out for two weeks, but I don't know if they'd really care about that? It might just seem like an excuse, but thanks for the help!! :)

No, that's definitely a legit reason, and colleges do want to know why you got such a low grade. Make sure your counselor knows about it and writes it on your school report.
