Getting a job back in hometown (San Diego) while attending UCI still?

I am a first year student at UCI currently in the 3rd quarter. The first 2 quarters I loaded up on my units so this quarter I decided to give myself more of a break. Still enrolled in 15 units, my class schedule is only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s. Like many, UCI was not a first choice of mine, I tried making the best out of it by joining clubs and meeting people, still I found myself quite unhappy. That being said I would drive home first quarter nearly every weekend and second quarter every other weekend.

I recently got a job near campus where with loaded Tu, W, and Th classes, only permitted me to work Friday’s - Monday’s. The job I work at now is the same franchise/ store chain that I worked at over summer back in SD.

Considering I am not happy sitting around here on the weekend (campus very dead) and waiting each day for a 4-5 hour minimum wage paying shift, I’ve thought of getting the same job back home again (about an hour and a half commute) where I go to school Tu, W, Th, and leave to go back to SD and work for my weekly four-day weekend. **Also, please don’t state how I only dorm once and am missing out on valuable opportunities to meet new people, because for 2 quarters I tried as much as I could to get involved and still found myself very unhappy. I’ve also felt that staying here and waiting around has created an imbalance for me mentally and with my happiness.

In this way, I get the best of both worlds with seeing my family, still working/ getting paid, and attending UCI.

I just wanted opinions on this. I know it’s doable considering I’ve driven home nearly every other weekend and the drive is nothing.

Come home to SD!
You’re not the first person from our town to complain about UCI.
As long as you have great time management skills and can get your homework and projects done before you leave, I don’t see why that would be a problem.

I did a similar commute during my college days. As hard as I tried to stay on campus on weekends, I found myself driving the 1 1/2 hours to go back home every weekend. So like what @aunt bea said, come home to SD. If you’ve done well managing your time and keeping your grades up, then take the SD job. If anything, I tried to read this post as open-minded as possible, and you got me rooting for the SD job!

@hulagirl99 what happened? why are you unhappy up there? I’m a san diegan too, I was accepted to UCSD and UCI and I’m planning to go UCI. your post made hesitate…
