Getting a Job... (No Work Study)

So my parents have been urging me to get a job for the fall. I’ve been browsing the Studentlink Jobs and found many vaguely described employment opportunities I may or may not be qualified for. Should I start sending out e-mails and making phone calls now or would it be better to do this when I get on campus? How easy is it to find work in Boston for a freshman; will the fact that I’m 17 (until October) matter?

Yeah. Start early. My advice is to start looking on campus and then expand your search to business around campus if you can't find anything. There are tons of opportunities on campus.

Yes, tons but . . . depends on what you want, how flexible your hours can be and experience. The hardest jobs are good ones off campus - because there are so many kids - but if you go into the stores in say Prudential then a lot of the sales help are students. The BU food court hires a number of students.

There are also "quickie" job listings at the student employment office --- one shot deals that may pay well.

It doesn't matter that you are 17, especially if you are applying for on campus jobs. I would start making phone calls and sending e-mails now. Do you have a resume?
