Getting a job

Ok so I'm a high school senior planning on going into Business at U of I next fall.

I want to find a high paying job for this summer and possibly a job (5 hours or so a week) for the rest of the school year. Any ideas?

Will any business companies hire me for an internship so I can get experience and make some good money?

If not what jobs should I look into? I want to do some ACT tutoring also. I scored a 31 on it last year but I am not sure exactly how to become a tutor for Kaplan or PR and how to do it. I would love to hear from those of you who do.

Thanks

I think companies tend to look for a commitment of more than 5 hours a week during the school year.

As for tutoring... Become a Tutor

You're a senior in high school and you want a high paying internship? Well, I hope you have some very very good connections then because it would definitely look weird for a high school senior to get a good internship while college juniors and seniors are getting rejected from them....

You haven't even started at college...you're not going to find a high paying internship at a business company, nor are you going to get a job at said company during the school year where you work 5 hours a week. High paying job as an eighteen-year-old without any experience or even business classes? Um, no, sorry.

I never said a high paying internship and I am looking for a high paid job for a 18 year old, not for the population in general.

I have to agree with msl2008 and hj0519. It's going to be extremely difficult if not impossible.

Your best bet is probably Exelon/ComEd. Probably the only place you'll be able to find a "good" summer job for someone coming out of high school. Be on the lookout on their websites the next few months. Utilities in the past have loved to bring on graduating high school seniors and college interns. Might be different this year. Even if they are just looking for engineering students, still apply. Maybe you are thinking about engineering (hint.) I assume even if you are just going to be a freshman they would still pay at least $12/hour. Also, since it is a huge company, "when" you decide to pursue business, you would have a good in for future summers since they also have huge groups for finance, accounting, marketing, etc.

Not guaranteeing that Exelon has a program for graduating seniors, but I know that DTE Energy, my local utility had a pretty big one.

EDIT: was trying to find if you were in Chicago area, saw that you are hispanic. Really hope you are in Chicagoland, utilities go nuts for diversity.

alright thanks for the advice. Yes I am in the chicagoland

Welcome. Even if Exelon doesn't bring on any graduating seniors, I would still consider them for after your freshman year of school. Public utilities are probably one of few places which offer internships for freshmen...again, assuming they are like the companies I've dealt with in Michigan, they will even take freshmen interns for HR, accounting, finance, marketing, etc.
