I'm incredibly frustrated right now because I'm a first-year broadcast journalism student in Virginia (though I'm a Sophmore credit-wise) and I'm trying to find a broadcasting internship for the Summer. I've done a magazine internship, a public school TV internship, and I've written stories for some local papers, but I want to move up the internship ladder and start working for local news stations. Unfortunately, most broadcasting internships are limited to upperclassmen only. I've started looking out of state for media internships (I've applied for a LinkTV and a Fox News internship) and I've already got an offer from a local independent radio station who would have me do menial tasks around the station (better than nothing, I guess), but I can't believe that these are the only opportunities available to a first-year journalism student.

Do any other j-students have recommendations about where else I could apply? Getting academic credit wouldn't be a problem because I could put the internship on my transcript as an Honors independent study.
