I was myself, and I think that was important. I didn't try to be someone I wasn't but undeniably, there were some awkward moments where neither of us knew what to say. He was pretty old and it was hard for me to relate to him. For instance, I expressed interest in traveling and he started to tell me all about his travels to Alaska and all 50 states, which I found fascinating but after a "wow, that's fantastic" and "tell me more!" I was kind of at a loss for what to say.

I was a bit sad that he didn't seem all too enthused about my interests. I specifically relayed that I was very interested in roller coaster design and that was one of my main stimuli for becoming an engineering, and he just smiled and basically told me "that's nice."

I'm just wondering, in general, how bad does your interview have to go for the EC to not recommend you at all? I read the example about one kid interviewed who never read a book outside of school, or the one that rarely showered, and obviously I didn't do anything to raise huge alarms like that. But still, I'm just at a loss for how to interpret the interview. I know I didn't click with my interviewer but I'm hoping there's a huge difference between getting along with the EC and actually being a good match for MIT
