last year it was a free ipod AND a free printer

Uhh. Intel is releasing their newest chip in June and there is a suspected redesign. I do not know if this interests you, but it might be worth your while to wait....

I read on another thread similar to this that the free ipod and printer deal had ended in September. That was just "read"-say though.

I hope the redesign is early June, I need it during the summer :(

^^^ I'll second that, I'm having a hard time making myself wait to decide on a configuration, case, etc. already...

I did some reading and it seems like it's better to wait... apparently Apple redesigns their laptops every 3 years or so and the MBP is getting outdated (according to the rumor blogs I read anyway). I hope they come out with the new ones soon...

I've purchased three MacBook Pros in the last year (two 15 inch models for the kids and a 17 inch model for me). They are all nice and I expect them to last for quite some time. They're all equipped with Windows XP via BootCamp. The MacBook Pro 15 inch models come with LED backlit displays compared to CCFL in other laptops - maybe the MacBook too. It's an option on the 17 inch model. The LED backlight gives you about 30 minutes more battery life and doesn't use mercury.

The new chipset will be worth the wait. You'll get faster FSB speeds, I think that WiMax will be built in and there may be wireless USB support. Demand might outstrip supply for several weeks though. I had to wait quite a while to get my 17 inch MBP as the models with the high-res screens were in very short supply for a while.
