Getting a NS in a S/NS graded Class

How bad is this? Around the midterm of a particular class that is required for my major, I changed the grading type to S/NS because I knew I couldn't get a good GPA as my midterm was 15% below average. I thought that I should atleast be able to get higher than a 2.0 because I usually get 5-10% above average on all the weekly projects.

However, as there is more stress and work near the end of the quarter, and since I literally get no sleep because I don't live on campus, and I have to commute 2 hours to class everyday (leave early in the morning, get home in the evening), I'm starting to miss easy points on assignments in all my classes. The class I am worried about had a grade calculator on the website, and when I calculated my grade with my predicted scores, I found out that I will most likely not succeed in getting higher than a 2.0, unless I somehow get 100% on everything, including the final, from now on.

Therefore, I am wondering how bad a NS is, and how it will affect me in the future? Thanks.

What class is it?

Also, just so you know in the future, even if you get an ‘S’ in a class that’s required for your major, it WILL NOT count towards the major requirements.

"As an undergraduate, a course in which an S is earned may not be used to satisfy any department, college, or University requirement, except that the credits may be applied to the minimum of 180 credits required for graduation. Each instructor will report numerical grades to the Registrar, who will convert satisfactory grades (2.0 or greater) to S, and unsatisfactory grades (less than 2.0) to NS for the student’s transcript. No more than 25 S/NS credits may apply toward an undergraduate degree. " – [UW Grading System](University of Washington Office of the Registrar)

You will have to retake the class no matter what, even if you do end up with an S.

So I suppose I wouldn’t stress too much about it, because no matter what you will be retaking it. Hopefully it is not a chem or a bio class or something like that? Those are harder to retake, I believe you have to petition the department.

I’m sorry, my question might be off topic, but I don’t want to create a new thread.
I understand that at UW there are some classes that can’t be retaken at all? What do people do in case they fail a class required for their major that can’t be retaken?

Thanks.

Hmm, I’m not aware of any class that absolutely CANNOT be retaken. What class are you thinking of?

It says in the descriptions of many “May not be repeated”. Is it the same as “retaken”?
