Getting a Position at a Time-Intensive EC

The thing is, I want to get a position at my yearbook-I have been going every day since it started when I was a freshman and now a sophomore. Even last year's final few days, I picked about 160 photos in a matter of days when it was needed. Is it bad etiquette to approach the club advisor (who I see every day for like an hour), and ask for a position as photo editor as a sophomore? There is apoisiton of junior editor (basically in name) and of course, editor-in-chief I basically have my name on. Do you think it's worth it to mention it? Or no, if its likely I'll get leadership positions later in highschool?
