Getting a single room!

I am a freshmen, seeking for a single room with air-conditioning.

I've already forwarded my request to RESNET, but how much chances do I have provided that the request was forwarded in mid-April?

And if I do not get a single room, will I be thrown into triples and quads?

A single room with air conditioning as a freshman?? You have a better shot at [I just spent 3 minutes thinking of a great analogy and couldn't find one]. Really unless you have a medical condition requiring A/C or better circulation (and a doctor's note stating that) they won't put you in an A/C residence hall just because you requested it. And a single room typically also requires extenuating circumstances. There's always the chance someone in a single drops out, but usually singles in the residence halls are occupied by sophomores.

Sorry for the bad news :)

The good news is that since you submitted your housing request in April, before the deadline, you shouldn't have to worry about being placed in a triple or quad. (Again, sometimes things happen.)

@ lindz: I will submit a doctor's note for the air conditioning... But can you tell me more about getting a single room?

What type of excuse can I present if I want a single room?

How much chances do I have with my roommate dropping out ? :p

Seriously, gibbusoft, there really is very little (i.e. next to NO) chance you'll get a single. I can't think of any extenuating circumstances that wouldn't raise questions about whether you can handle being in a social environment (i.e. college) at all. If you and your parents feel that strongly, then maybe you should look to pay a lot of money and live by yourself off campus.

Just out of curiosity why would you want a single anyway? Part of te fun is the roommates...I understand wanting a single room later on for prvacy issues, but as a freshman the first few days your friendshps form through roommate situation...if you dislike them you go and search for new friends. By having a single you will be placing yourself in an uphill battle...if most singles go to sophs, they will have their friendship circles and no need to ask you to hang with them...you can find yourself in a very lonely situation

@ bullet: Just wanted more privacy. But the social circle thingi that you said is indeed true...

gibbusoft, the type of excuse you could present for a single room would be something along the lines of being transgender and in the process of transitioning from one gender to the other. Not "I like my privacy".

If your roommate drops out, they will move a student from a forced triple into your room.

If you want privacy, hang a curtain around your bed. This will label you as "strange" but at least you'll get your privacy.

well said, lindz...didn't think of that scenario, which probably would be one of the only "valid" ones that the office of Res Life would consider for getting a single room! Gibbusoft, you are best off if you start getting your head around the idea of having a roommate. You won't know who/where you are assigned until early August, if it's like last year. Then, via facebook or calling/email, you can get an idea of who your roommate is before you get to campus.

@ astro: Yeap. That's what the Reslife told me. 2nd week of August it is...
