Getting admissions/scholarship revoked

Hi CC

I was notified about a week ago that I am to receive a $40,000 scholarship from the LSA College and a $1500 Regents Scholarship.

My GPA
First 6 semesters: 3.93
First 7 semesters: 3.90

ACT: 34

Essays: amazing (talked about family death without being all sappy and emotional)
recs: average, both liked me I guess.
counselor rec: should've been baller.

high school: feeds ~40-50 seniors to Michigan a year.

ECs: eagle scout, drum major, 2 year track captain, 3 varsity sports, section leader of several ensembles.

Here's the kicker...
i won the worst case of senioritis for my grade... I had three B's my first semester senior year.
As of now, I have FIVE classes that I have a C or C+ in. The other four are A's.

AP Calculus AB C+ (With work, I can see myself pushing this into the B range)
AP English- A
AP Physics B - C (This class is a toss-up. I really don't know my grade in this class
Economics- C+ (I see myself pushing it above a C+)
Symph Band- A
AP Biology- C+ (Could possibly push into B range with studying) And everyone in this class has a C at the moment -_-
AP Spanish- C
Jazz Ensemble- A
Full Orchestra- A

My sister got into UPenn and had a C in her english class senior year (this was in 2004).

Within a week or two (and with good effort), I should see my C+ in econ evaporate.
My math grade is like a 79.99, so all I need to do is not be a jackass and do my work.

Anyways you've probably seen this story before. I've got senioritis, but I've got about 50+ schooldays left to push my grades back up.

too long; didn't read: If I submitted a final report containing two C's, would I lose my scholarship and/or admissions to LSA?

Your acceptance will not be rescinded with those grades. However, you will definitely be asked to explain the drop in grades and your scholarship could well be revoked. But who cares right? We are taking about chump change! Seriously, make an effort and avoid Cs at all cost.

with two Cs?

Usually the final grade report is a full year average for senior year. So, unless the grade drop is truly precipitous, it does not show up that badly. But every school has it’s guidelines as to when they want an explanation, when a student goes on probation, when admission is delayed or rescinded, when a merit award is rescinded. So you need to talk to UM directly as to what their specific guidelines are. But, yes, I can see how two C’s could do it. Especially if there are those out there with similar stats to yours who did not succumb to senioritus the last few months. I would have no compunction rewarding those kids with the staying power by taking the award away from someone who is starting to slack.

wow i’m really starting to get scared now…
I don’t think I’m halfway through the semester yet, so I have a good amount of time to do work.

So if I had all B’s and maybe one C, I’ll be fine?

If you can turn all your Cs into Bs, you are definitely ok. One C may slide, but I would not risk more.

I’m on it.
brb gonna kill some homework

LOL! You go boy!

just emailed two teachers in classes that i’ve been severely slacking in.

basically i said “WHATUP IM ON A COMEBACK YO”

2nd semester junior year i had 4 B+s going into finals, and I came out with a 4.0.

Wait…would getting all B/B+s result in my acceptance to be revoked? Also is it possible to revoked from the Honors program once you get in? It’s not like my grades were good before,
but they definitely suck now. Before I applied to Michigan I got a 3.7. The first semester of senior year, I got a 3.6 and this semester it looks like I’m on track for a 3.4/3.5. Should I be worried?

^mediocrity doesn’t cause revocation, giving up does. Your grades have to be inexcusable (as in not even senioritis can explain why they are as bad)

Infinit, Bs do not hurt, but Cs do. As long as your GPA in academic classes (electives do not count) is in the 3.5 range, you are perfectly fine. Once it dips below 3.2, it could raise attention you do not want.

Will being mediocre revoke my Honor’s admittance? Does it help that all my classes are APs? (To be honest though, most are particularly easy APs)

I thought the general rule of thumb was as long as your total GPA doesn’t dip by .2 you’ll be fine.

=((3.9 * 7) + 3.0)/(8)
=(27.3 + 3.0)/(8)
=(30.3)/(8)
=3.79

3.9 - 3.79 = 1.1

Also keep in mind colleges will care more about year grades so an A first semester will balance out a C second semester.

However, your current UW GPA for your AP classes is currently 2.5. Three of your 4 As are in non-academic classes so I would do your best to get a 3.0 UW average in your AP classes.
