Hey,
My school is in quarter system. So I am getting an F in my Math class(major prerequisite) in Winter. I am planning to retake during Spring Quarter. Is it better to tell the UCs IMMEDIATELY after my grades come out, or wait until the admission offer letter is out(in beginning of Spring for UCB and UCLA) and then notify them? Because I read the provisional contract, saying that my admission is only revoked if I do not get at least a B for a major prerequisite class. So, as long as I inform UCB or UCLA in Spring(after getting admission letter) and I get above B for Math in Spring, I should be fine right?
Or, if you suggest me to tell them now, would that affect my admission chance a lot? My current GPA is 4.0, with no W or no F or anything, with lots of ECs.
Honestly I would not tell them. Going on the premise, “it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission.” If you are accepted, you have until June 1 to SIR. If you have grades by then, assuming you get a B, then there is really nothing to tell. You met the requirement. However if you don’t have grades by June 1, then you can explain your situation, and that you currently are on track to get a B (or better) and final grades will be out on XYZ date.
If you tell them now, they may not admit you, and getting in on appeal is harder than maintaining admission over a technicality. If you get a B in Spring then it wipes out your Winter grade. It’s not lying. They said you have to meet all prereq requirements by the end of spring. Period.
Maybe candles is right. I thought all provisionals said to notify if you have a D or an F, but maybe just keeping quiet and retaking is the better course of action.
@mikemac Hey, I got accepted into UCB, UCLA, UCSD, etc, and once you are admitted, you need to tell them right away. I called these schools before admissino decision was out, and they told me that wait until I got my decision and then report it to them the grade changes.
